Head of RITS Data Management

Prudential Retirement's Technology organization, Retirement Information Technology Services (RITS), is forming a new data management organization to integrate and support the rapid evolution of its data management practices. RITS delivers hundreds of initiatives each year, large and small, and is currently embarking on major data strategy initiatives in Data Warehousing, Reporting and Analytics, Master Data Management, and Data Governance. RITS is carrying out rapid expansion and reorganization to support effective, timely and accurate delivery of new business needs. These changes include new resources, roles, and implementation of new practices and tools. The Head of RITS Data Management will manage that evolution through to its completion, with the mission of building a robust and mature data management organization able to meet changing needs in a dynamic business environment. This position will report to the VP, Information Systems, for Business Technology and Strategy.

He or she will manage key teams responsible for the entire data delivery practice from architecture through physical database deployment and support. Functional areas that fall under his/her purview include:

  • Data Architecture and Strategy
  • Data Analysis
  • Data Governance including Error Management and Metadata Management
  • Data Modeling
  • Data Movement and Data Services Programming
  • DBA Services & Production Support
  • Data Projects Portfolio Management
The Head of DM will be responsible for driving forward continuous improvements to data management and delivery practices and for the successful completion of the three-year data strategy initiative begun in 2012. The selected candidate will manage and direct the leads of the functional areas listed above to optimize execution of the data strategy initiative and the concomitant expansion of staff and maturation of processes and skills. He or she will be responsible for risk management, resource allocation, and project prioritization, and will guide and represent the functional teams' efforts to grow the value Prudential Retirement derives from its data and from new initiatives. This will include shaping, sponsoring and communicating the rationale for changes and need for investments in data management.

Ø Desirable Hands-on Technical Experience:
o Experience with IBM UDB strongly preferred

o Experience with DataStage and the IBM Infosphere Suite is a significant plus

o Experience with IBM mainframe is a significant plus

o Experience with a data appliance (e.g., Greenplum, Netezza or Teradata) is a plus

o Experience working in within an SOA framework and Software AG ESB platform

o Experience with COGNOS

Qualifications

Fifteen+ years of experience with all phases of data management in a large, complex organization, including hands-on technical experience in some areas. Bachelors degree or higher

Experience in managing teams through periods of extensive change and growth, building a smoothly-functioning organization and maturing processes while maintaining rigorous delivery schedules

Demonstrated organizational and team leadership skills with a clear ability to form and motivate diverse high performing teams

Ø Demonstrated ability to manage multiple teams executing critical roles over numerous projects with increasing utilization of offshore resources and managed-service engagements

Ø Experienced and effective communicator with senior management and business audiences, and able to represent the data management organization in regard to initiatives underway, strategic goals, progress metrics, and key IT concerns

Ø Proven track record translating business strategies into the actions necessary to build a technology data management practice.

Ø Ability to collaborate with business leadership and to help influence the direction on certain business strategies based on available enabling technologies and technology best practices

Ø Strong program and project management experience and the ability to manage business expectations amid the exigencies of program delivery including budgets, risks and resource constraints

Ø Large-scale data management project experience, including understanding of skills, methods and technologies for delivery of complex data-centric initiatives

Ø Experience with key technical areas of data management in large organizations, such as data warehousing, master data management initiatives, reporting and analytics

Ø Experience with data governance roles and processes and data integrity challenges typical to an organization with a large, complex and heterogeneous data environment

Ø Experience in the financial services industry, especially retirement services, is desirable

Ø Experience with software solutions and techniques for data quality management, data profiling and error control

Ø Demonstrated experience integrating various data management tools into a single data management capability

Ø Demonstrated experience driving Information Management organizational maturity forward in measurable ways
