Position Concept Mile High United Way is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and implement internal and external integrated marketing communications programs based on our mission and goals. This position is responsible for event marketing communications, working with graphic designer to ensure collateral and all product design and development is in line with our strategies; and directing the work of marketing communications associates to ensure internal and external clients are being serviced. Additionally, this position is responsible for driving and increasing public awareness of Mile High United Way, and for the strategic development and execution of marketing communications strategies that: create impact in our community, help the public understand what Mile High United Way does, generate revenue for the organization and increase the volunteer engagement with Mile High United Way. Primary Responsibilities • In collaboration with VP of Marketing and Communications, develop Mile High United Way’s offline and online, African American and Hispanic, and overall marketing communication strategy • Make recommendations to VP and lead the implementation of various online and offline programs • Create/manage and drive public relations plans and resources to create an accurate, consistent image and maximize market awareness and success • Identify external audiences, key message strategies, and is responsible for the presentation and representation of the message and reputation management • Serve as media spokesperson, developing messaging, pro-actively pitching stories, developing and implementing crisis communications plans, promoting events and programs, writing news releases, executive speeches, and web content and organizing press opportunities. • Work with VP of Communications to develop CEO and Sr. Staff brand • Develop and maintain media partnerships and individual reporter relations • Collaborate with Events Director to executive the marketing and communications aspects of Mile High United Way’s marquee events (and smaller donor events as needed) • Collaborate with Digital Marketing Manager to implement online communication strategy • Collaborate with Donor Relations staff to assist in maximizing communication to donors and volunteers • Secure sponsorships for Mile High United Way Turkey Trot • Work collaboratively with Graphic Coordinator to execute collateral material projects The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or related field. A Master’s degree and bilingual candidates (Spanish) are preferred. Additionally, the selected applicant will have 7-10 years of experience in public and media relations including experience serving as media spokesperson, promoting events and programs, and writing news releases, fact sheets, newsletters, and news and/or feature articles. He or she should have excellent skills in Microsoft Office, Webpage editing and HTML and extensive social media experience. This position requires experience in mission driven marketing communications; experience working directly with print, broadcast and new media; proven record of pro-active story pitching with successful results; and experience writing reports, copy for press release development, and speeches for senior executives.
