Education Pioneers seeks a Director to mobilize its network of Fellows, Alumni, and Partners to dramatically improve outcomes for the NYC Metro Area’s neediest students. The Director serves as the primary agent to implement a powerful and transformational experience for the local cohort of Fellows, to support Partner organizations in meeting their talent needs, and to provide strategic support and programming for locally based Alumni throughout the year. Successful candidates will be highly-motivated and goal-oriented, with proven project management and relationship-building skills.

Primary Responsibilities
This position will report to the Executive Director, NYC Metro (NYC, Newark/Greater NJ, and Connecticut), and will have multiple direct reports (Program Managers). In addition, he/she will collaborate closely with the other members of the regional team. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Lead the successful growth and implementation of transformative Education Pioneers Fellowship programs in the NYC Metro Area
  • Provide leadership to the regional team in all aspects of programming, including program design, management, implementation and evaluation
  • Recruit a wide range of education reform organizations across the NY Metro Area to host 100+ Fellows across our Fellowship programs (Graduate Student Fellowship, Yearlong Fellowship, Analyst Fellowship) in 2013
  • Match organizations with Fellows and support both fellows and partners throughout the placement process
  • Facilitate and assist with the coordination of all signature elements of the NY Metro Area fellowship programs; coordinate with National Department on all design elements
  • Serve as a skilled coach, mentor and guide for Fellows providing direct and targeted support regarding their fellowship experience, ongoing professional development and long-term career planning
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Partners to ensure support and clarity throughout the summer fellowship period
  • Effectively monitor and evaluate the success of the NYC Metro Area Fellowship Programs
  • Represent Education Pioneers at events in the broader community to build our brand and presence in the NY Metro Area
Support our national strategy to recruit, select, and place a diverse group of talented individuals into our Fellowship Programs
  • Recruit and select a diverse group of 100+ talented candidates into Education Pioneers’ Fellowship programs (Graduate Student Fellowship, Yearlong Fellowship, Analyst Fellowship) in 2013
  • Represent Education Pioneers at local recruiting events and generate excitement for our program among prospective applicants
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with applicants to assess their candidacy for our programs
  • Work closely with the regional team to make final decisions regarding admissions into the Graduate School Fellowship and Analyst Fellowship
Nurture a vibrant network of local Alumni and Partner organizations
  • Develop, manage and cultivate relationships with new and existing partner organizations
  • Enhance the effectiveness of NYC Metro Area Alumni by helping them become impactful change agents at high-impact/high-potential education organizations through connecting them to local education leaders, leveraging events and gatherings, providing one-on-one career counseling, and offering other relevant supports
  • Build a strong Alumni network amongst the 200+ Alumni in the NYC Metro Area
  • Connect Partner organizations with Alumni talent and identify opportunities to provide Partners with year-round human capital support
  • Lead the local Alumni Advisory Board
  • Engage locally based Alumni in aspects of the Fellowship Programs to serve as Partners, speakers/panelists, and mentors to support the fellowship experiences
Provide strategic thought partnership for the NYC Metro Area Team in defining, expanding and measuring impact
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to identify appropriate annual program goals, metrics and outcomes
  • Support the Executive Director and regional development staff in articulating program impact and outcomes to the local funding community
  • Provide thought leadership with the Executive Director and regional team in strategies for growing program impact and broadening presence in the region
Experience and Qualifications
  • Graduate degree required
  • Four or more years of relevant professional experience including program development, business development/sales, recruiting, teaching, coaching/mentoring professional development/facilitation
  • A proven track record of building effective relationships/partnerships, preferably in the education or nonprofit sector
  • At least two years experience effectively managing and evaluating people
  • Highly developed facilitation and networking skills
  • Outstanding presentation and written skills
  • Strong strategic thinking skills
  • Experience successfully managing all aspects of a program, including design, implementation and evaluation
  • Comfort operating in an entrepreneurial, resource –limited environment
  • Strong team orientation and ability to provide and accept feedback, and ability to work in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Deep knowledge of the current K-12 education reform landscape required, significant education reform experience in the NYC Metro Area preferred
  • Strong comfort level with technology systems/ affinity for learning new technologies
