Education Pioneers seeks a Director to lead its New Orleans launch efforts to dramatically improve outcomes for New Orleans’s neediest students through outside-the-classroom talent. The Director, New Orleans role serves as the primary agent to implement a powerful and transformational experience for the local cohort of Fellows, to support local education organizations (Partners) in meeting their strategic talent needs, and to provide support and programming for locally based Alumni throughout the year. Successful candidates will be entrepreneurial, highly-motivated and goal-oriented, and will possess proven project management and relationship-building skills.

This Director role will require someone with a strong presence to serve as the “face” of Education Pioneers in New Orleans’s dynamic education sector. The ideal candidate is someone who has a passion for and experience in building programs or initiatives from the ground up and can function as a “jack-of-all trades” while leading our growth efforts in New Orleans. This role is based in New Orleans, LA.

Primary Responsibilities
This position will report to the Executive Director, Southern Region (Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Washington, DC). In addition, he/she will collaborate closely with the other members of the Southern Region team. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Lead the successful programmatic launch of transformative Education Pioneers Fellowship programs in New Orleans
  • Develop and manage partnerships with education reform organizations across New Orleans, ensuring placements for Fellows across our Fellowship programs (a total 15 in 2013 and 80+ over the next 3 years)
  • Provide in-depth support to partner organizations by maintaining ongoing, clear communication throughout the fellowship period
  • Appropriately match partner organizations with Fellows who meet their short and/or long term talent needs
  • Facilitate and assist with the coordination of all signature elements of the New Orleans fellowship programs
  • Serve as a skilled coach, mentor and guide for Fellows providing direct and targeted support regarding their fellowship experience, ongoing professional development and long-term career planning
  • Effectively monitor and evaluate the success of the New Orleans Fellowship Programs
  • Represent Education Pioneers at events in the broader community to build our brand and presence in New Orleans
Support our national strategy to recruit, select, and place a diverse group of talented individuals into our Fellowship Programs
  • Recruit and select a diverse group of 15 talented candidates into Education Pioneers’ Fellowship programs (Graduate Student Fellowship & Analyst Fellowship) in 2013 (a total of 80+ over the next 3 years)
  • Represent Education Pioneers at local recruiting events and generate excitement for our programs among prospective applicants
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with applicants to assess their candidacy for our program
  • Work closely with the Southern Region team to make final decisions regarding admissions into the Graduate School Fellowship and Analyst Fellowship
Nurture a vibrant network of local Alumni and Partner organizations
  • Enhance the effectiveness of New Orleans Alumni by helping them become impactful change agents at high-impact/high-potential education organizations through connecting them to local education leaders, leveraging events and gatherings, providing one-on-one career counseling, and offering other relevant supports
  • Build a strong Alumni network amongst the growing Alumni base in New Orleans
  • Connect Partner organizations with Alumni talent and identify opportunities to provide Partners with year-round human capital support
  • Create and lead a local Alumni Advisory Board
  • Engage locally based Alumni in aspects of the Fellowship Programs to serve as Partners, speakers/panelists, and mentors to support the fellowship experiences

Experience and Qualifications
  • Graduate degree strongly preferred
  • Five or more years of relevant professional experience including sales, recruiting, teaching, coaching/mentoring, professional development, program management strongly preferred
  • Strong facilitation, networking, and presentation skills required
  • Strong knowledge of the current K-12 education reform landscape strongly preferred, significant education reform experience in New Orleans preferred
  • Extensive skill in relationship building with team members and external partners
  • Experience successfully managing a program in a fast-paced, goals-oriented environment
