Basic Purpose

-

Develop and drive product development strategies for US Foods’ Exclusive Brands products, ensuring that the business needs of US Foods’ customers continue to be met and that the integrity of our brands are advanced through execution of effective innovative products.

Continually benchmark and analyze USF’s competitive set, and emerging technology, to identify gaps or opportunity areas from a technical point of difference in US Foods products vs. competition.

Create and implement an ideation process for both products and initiatives, to result in further differentiating USF from it's competitors.

Lead identification and development of new opportunities for innovation platforms by creating business case for investment and adoption of the platforms

Interpret brand hierarchy and associated product attributes at the category level in conjunction with Category Management

Identifies and evaluates key vendors in conjunction with PD & Category Team. Develops vendor strategies as it pertains to product, based upon current vendor strengths and weaknesses and long-term development requirements.

Secure formula and specification ownership and proprietary advantage where applicable to protect investments and competitors’ ability to replicate. Leverage technical intellectual property expertise as a key business protector and value add. Provide relief support in the sensory approval process, ensuring sensory results meet defined brand standards

Provide exclusive brand expertise and support to media events and promotions

Qualifications

Education/Training:
  • Bachelors degree required, MBA preferred.
Minimum 10 years relevant experience with at least 5 years’ related customer focused experience in foodservice, consumer packaged goods, or retail. Expertise in product development and new product innovation preferred.

Product Development or Culinary Background. Outstanding sensory skills.

Prior experience in training facilitation preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Strategic decision-making approach to business interests. Must demonstrate sound judgment and strong business acumen.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Highly organized with a strong focus on detail and accuracy.
  • Work effectively as an individual with minimal supervision, or as a team member as required.
Strong passion for food and the drive to develop this passion throughout the organization

Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
