DESCRIPTION

UWCI has four priorities: education, income, health and basic needs. With our nearly 100 partner agencies and community partners, UWCI works toward these priorities on education and human services initiatives to fulfill our mission of helping people learn more, earn more and lead safe and healthy lives. This position provides the Public Policy leadership and effort to support these priorities. UWCI is a nonpartisan, non-ideological organization.Provide staff leadership for United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) public policy and governmental affairs work at the federal, state and local levels. This is in support of identified priorities and in conjunction with the efforts of Indiana Association of United Ways (IaUW) and United Way Worldwide. Provide leadership in the community to facilitate public policy planning and community building activity in support of UWCI priorities.

DUTIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Under the direction of Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Community Planning: -Supports Public Policy efforts on the Human Services, Ready to Learn, Ready to Earn (RTL/RTE) committees, and other committees as needed.-Identifies, researches, monitors, and advocates key local and / or regional public policy issues, performs analysis on organizational priority issues, develops strategy, convenes discussions and provides issue advocacy leadership and community education as appropriate. -Leads development of the annual Public Policy agenda for UWCI and the Legislative Breakfast.-Mobilizes Public Policy Subcommittee, UWCI Board members and companies, other volunteers, agency representatives and other external constituencies for action in support of public policy agenda.-Provides staff support for UWCI's Public Policy Subcommittee.-Authors or facilitates the development of policy reports, issue papers, op-eds and outreach materials.-Conducts a regular program of information dissemination including communication through newsletters, email action "alerts" and social media.-Conducts workshops and seminars as appropriate.-Alerts and advises agencies on critical issues.-Participates on the IaUW Public Policy committee. -Cultivates and maintains relationships with policymakers.-Serves as a registered lobbyist with the state on behalf of UWCI and complies with all registration -Participates in and coordinates with statewide/national efforts including Indiana Association of United Ways, Indiana Coalition for Human Services, the Children's Coalition of Indiana and United Way Worldwide.-Develops and monitors department budget.-Helps promote a cooperative spirit within the organization and among internal and external United Way participants.-Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in public administration, law, government, social work or related field required. Graduate degree preferred in public administration, law, government, social work or related field with five years significant experience in public policy, preferably related to human services and education issues.
