Purpose of the Role: Reporting to the VP, HMH Studios: Build, the Director, Content Product Quality leads and directs quality efforts for all HMH educational products, including print, digital, and blended offerings, across all delivery modalities, including desktop, mobile, tablet; across K-12 and Consumer products. The successful candidate will drive HMH's product quality from definition through all phases of the product development life cycle, leading in-house teams and outsource partners to deliver excellent product quality.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead, champion, and execute on HMH's product quality vision (supporting and growing a culture of quality across the HMH Content Development Group)
  • Lead all aspects of HMH's Quality function, including liaising with all CDG Studios (Learning Architecture, Design, Build) and others as appropriate in pursuit of quality to develop, expand, and measure quality processes and procedures across the HMH Studios
  • Collaborate with senior management to improve overall product quality, emphasizing and promoting defect prevention throughout the entire content development process
  • Lead fast-paced, high-volume function to implement optimal approach to delivering HMH products to agreed-upon quality and optimal HMH user experience; including user testing engagement and process
  • Define, coordinate and monitor quality practices across a matrixed product development organization (Learning Architecture, Design, Build) and third party vendors providing quality services including the areas of content review, fact checking, functional and performance testing
  • Anticipate potential quality problems and points of failure to communicate critical issues across functions and senior leadership as necessary
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with peers across Learning, Design, Build and New Markets Studios and the wider organization, providing QA support, guidance and strategic direction
  • Evaluate and select outsource partners and vendors for quality assurance activities; supports the global outsource partner network to deliver components based on predefined metrics of quality, performance, budget, and schedule
  • Utilize analytics and automation techniques and consistently review QA processes, their execution within the development cycle and tools to improve quality and the cost and speed of Content Quality Assurance
  • Lead by example, as an enthusiastic, positive and proactive ambassador for quality, developing a global team of quality experts to support a unified content developmental process
  • Lead and mentor the Content Quality Assurance team to provide cross-media competence development and training opportunities, facilitating team members to grow in their acumen
  • Complete performance reviews and ensures that all Content Quality team members meet or exceed organizational standards
  • Keep abreast of current and future Content Quality Assurance approaches and tools/ technologies to create and lead the way with quality content for 21st-century teaching and learning
Job Requirements Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum of 10 years management experience in content or software development area
  • Experience leading cross-discipline teams in a fast-paced and Agile environment
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of Content Quality Assurance processes, standards, methodologies, and tools
  • Experience testing large-scale applications and content deliveries, across multiple platforms, focusing on web and mobile devices
  • Experience collecting, visualizing and communicating data, metrics and analytics
  • Experience defining programs for Automated and Performance testing and developing new and efficient test procedures
  • Excellent familiarity with test management systems and defect tracking databases
  • Proven experience in motivating and managing large internal and external cross-functional teams
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where large volumes of releases and deliveries are made dailyInternal and external customer-focused attitude with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to clearly communicate and share solutions across all areas of the organization
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate, and contribute to discussions at a design, technical and user experience level
Highly Desirable
  • Experience in large-scale content delivery, gaming or digital publishing
  • Detailed technical knowledge and understanding of web technologies (HTML5, CSS, Javascript, etc.)
  • Experience in Content Quality Assurance for cross-platform environments and devices
  • Mobile device and responsive design development and test experience
  • Experience with JIRA project/ defect tracking
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems, and/or Educational Multimedia products
  • Experience working on K-12 courseware development including Textbooks, eBooks, Interactive Whiteboard Lessons, Digital Learning Objectives, and associated metadata
Educational Qualifications/Certifications:
  • Degree (preferably with a post-graduate qualification) in Computer Science, Educational Publishing, or User Experience, or a related field
