As a MedStar National Rehabilitation Network (MNRN) Team Member, incumbent directs the inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital (MSMH). The Director is responsible for initial evaluation, re-evaluation, treatment planning, treatment implementation, reporting and documentation of patients within departmental and professional standards. Incumbent ensures that services are delivered by qualified staff and support personnel who will deliver high quality care a nd customer service. Ensures accountability to the organization and persons served. Directs compliance of patient care, hiring, discipline, discharge and competencies. The incumbent may be involved in some operational responsibilities for external sites developed into the future.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees evaluation services including review of pertinent history information, performance of specific assessments, and determination of recommendations and documentation of results. Explains evaluation findings and treatment plan to patient and family and incorporates patient and family in the goals setting.

Demonstrates and oversees staff proficiency in implementation of treatment protocols based upon evaluation findings, the patient's presentation and the evolving health care environment. Consults with other healthcare professionals as indicated. Recognizes and documents changes in patient's condition requiring modification of the plan of care and/or the need for medical/rehabilitation consultation.

Oversees completion of appropriate discharge planning and follow-up care. Accurately and timely documents and charges for patient care activities in light of our evolving health care environment, painting a clear picture of the patient's course of care including focused initial evaluation/plan of care that establishes baseline and goals, legible daily encounter notes, interim progress summaries, and discharge evaluation.

Contributes to the development and achievement of established department goals and objectives in collaboration with MSMH leadership and MNRN ambulatory leadership, consistent with organizational strategic and operating plans. Monitors progress towards attainment of defined and agreed upon goals and objectives. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

Promotes excellent customer experience and access to care through flexibility and adaptability. Leads team in removing barriers to access, understands CSI and NRC Picker measurement data of the sites and actively engages in the Access NRH initiatives.

Independently manages the daily operations with a consistent focus on great access to care. This includes but is not limited to working with the MSMH VP, MNRN Regional Director and MNRN VP of Ambulatory Services and Network Development to facilitate appropriate staffing, controlling expenses managing patient schedules, and assuring efficient processes are in place to support the team members and customers. Troubleshoots as indicated with schedulers during periods of high census and during planned or unplanned employee absences. Meets or exceeds productivity, charging and financial targets of the outpatient clinic(s) and the inpatient rehabilitation service.

Assists in business design and development. Develops and implements clinical programs that are cost effective and value added. Works closely with MNRN and MSMH Business Development to market the programs and services to targeted referrers.

Participates in peer review activities and provides regular feedback to team members. Completes and/or contributes to the development of corrective action plans.

Actively assists in leading the rehabilitation services to excel in the Access NRH initiative, including the ongoing and collaborative removal of barriers to promote high Customer Service Initiative measurement results. Involves all team members in this focused commitment.

Completes assigned maintenance and administrative duties to include reviewing of data, maintaining equipment and maintenance of clinic areas.

Coordinates selection, coaching, orientation, mentoring and goal setting to promote improved team members performance and quality care enhancement. Works with the MRNN ambulatory leadership and MSMH VP to develop standards of performance, evaluates performance and effectively manages performance and mentors and recognizes top performances. Conducts timely performance evaluation of all direct reports.

Qualifications

Education :

Graduate of an accredited school of occupational or physical therapy. Bachelors or Masters degree in occupational or physical therapy.

Experience :

Minimum of three to five years clinical experience in combination of inpatient and outpatient therapy settings. Two years significant supervisory experience required. Program and staff development experience preferred.
