Primary Responsibilities

Serve as the lead security resource for MLS and its clubs pertaining to facility security management, crowd preparedness and response, emergency management, team travel and transportation matters, hotel security and other applicable areas.

Hire, train and supervise Soccer Security Agents (“SSAs”) in every MLS market.

Responsible for security planning and implementation for the MLS Playoffs and MLS Special Events (All-Star, Cup, Board of Governor Meetings, and Hospitality Events) working with state, local and federal law enforcement agencies and private security contractors.

Coordinate security logistics for matches promoted by Soccer United Marketing (e.g. hiring SSAs, airport arrivals, customs, immigration, transportation, hotel logistics, venue security).

Conduct security awareness training programs for MLS staff, players and referees.

Coordinate investigations as requested by the Commissioner’s Office.

Develop a working plan to address the potential issues for match fixing in MLS.

Develop and manage a Whistle Blower/Safety Hotline for MLS Players and Game Officials.

Supervise background checks for MLS Game Officials pertaining to pre-employment, updates and misconduct.

Monitor all threats related to the Commissioner, League Office staff and players.

Enhance the relationship between clubs, SSAs, DHS Protective Security Advisors, local law enforcement, Federal Agencies and other professional sports (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, FIFA, UEFA, FMF, etc.).

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university

Advance degree preferred (Masters / JD)

10-15 years related experience in law enforcement

10-15 years related experience conducting investigative interviews

Strong organizational and writing skills

Strong analytic skills

Detail oriented

Ability to travel

Experience in event management

Experience in soccer preferred

Spanish and French language skills preferred

Other Roles and Functions

Maintain contacts in law enforcement community.

Identify, research and analyze the most prominent threats to the League’s business.

Assist with planning and executing an annual MLS Security Seminar.

Create a security plan for MLS Commissioner & Executive travel.

Responsible for managing of security programs developed and implemented at the MLS League Office in New York City.
