Reporting to the Vice President - Tax, the Director of Tax Accounting & Planning Risk Analysis will lead the Tax Accounting function (including quarterly/annual reporting, controls/testing, process efficiencies, accounting for certain entities, acquisition accounting, and due diligence) and provide leadership in the Finance function at the Director level. Areas of responsibility include:

Tax Provision Area

Manage the tax accounting work

Manage the preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provision

Review the international tax provisions

Consolidate the international tax provisions

Review the US tax provision

Consolidate the international and US tax provisions

Assist in determining/reviewing the company’s FIN 48 reserves

Prepare FIN 48 memos

Prepare and review the quarterly and annual disclosures

Work on carve-out financial statements

Work on discontinued operations and restatements due to dispositions

Projection of the current and next years’ effective tax rate

Acquisition Accounting

Manage the tax purchase accounting for all acquisitions

Work with the units to ensure that the correct tax accounting entries related to all tax accounts

Review and book the tax entries related to the step-up’s in purchase accounting carried in the US

Acquisition Due Diligence

Work with the Units to complete due diligence on potential acquisitions

Review SPA’s tax clauses to minimize the company’s tax risks

Work with international units and consultants to complete due diligence on acquisitions

IRS Audits

Manage the tracking of all IRS audits adjustments for affirmatives, RARs, etc.

Manage the recalculation of the interest accrual with outside consultants.

Federal Tax Return

Manage the true-up calculations and complete before the tax return is filed

Work with the federal tax group to ensure that the required disclosures related to UTP’s are completed.


Ensure LIFO calculations are completed

Manage the accounting for various US and non-US companies

Reviewing the Transaction Planning Approval Forms

Review the planning transactions from a tax provision and a tax technical perspective. The transactions involve complex tax issues and require strong technical and analytical skills.

Manage the tax accounting related to the approved transactions

Review the planning transactions’ cash flows in order to determine the ROI

Special Projects (USA Projects)

Work with other areas to streamline processes

Work with other areas to implement changes to support the business.

Provide leadership in the Tax Accounting Area

Manage/develop the staff

Plan out all resources for the area and prioritize projects

Coordinate work with the other areas of the tax department

Manage the pool staff with the other areas of the tax department to ensure there are sufficient resources to drive the projects during the year.

Drive efficiencies in the tax accounting processes

Monitor legislative changes and determine any impact to the company on the tax provision.

Implement any changes to the current processes due to changes in legislation.

Work with the units on any tax accounting issues

Manage the tax consultants

Core Requirements


Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is a must and an MST is preferred

Certified Public Accountant is a must

Minimum 10 – 15 years tax provision experience in a Big 4 accounting firm and/or comparable tax experience in a large corporation

At least three years directly managing a team of at least two people preferred

Strong federal and international tax technical skills

Demonstrated experience building and leading a tax accounting team

Demonstrated strength in computer proficiency

Strong organizational skills and documentation skills including the ability to multi-task and prioritize

Ability to interact with all levels of an organization

Ability to research tax accounting issues

Strong analytical skills and an overall knowledge of tax accounting
