Directs the daily management of the Translational Pathology Laboratory, a state of the art core laboratory that provides company-wide support for microscopic morphology primarily for Discovery. Capabilities of the lab include immunohistochemistry (bright field and fluorescence), in-situ hybridization, thick section staining, whole slide imaging and high throughput image analysis. These technologies are used to identify and resolve pathology-related issues through experimental methods in order to speed progression of promising drug candidates and termination of drug candidates with a low likelihood of success.
1. Works under the Head of Discovery Pathology to lead the Translational Pathology Laboratory (TPL) staff in the delivery of critical, high quality data in a timely manner
2.Participate in the design, execution and interpretation of studies that characterize the activity of novel molecules impacting central pathogenic mechanisms through the use of advanced methods that define morphologic changes in order advance the portfolio
3. Function as an individual
contributor in completion of projects by being responsible for reading and review of lab assignments as needed and by acting as a professional resource in daily operations of the TPL to insure quality control and consistency
4. ork with the lab manager to optimize planning, staffing, budgeting and managing expense priorities in the TPL as well as helping the career development of those in the TPL and others in BIIB as appropriate in order to develop a cohesive and productive team of excellent, high impact workers
5.Function as a member of drug development teams requiring histopathology support
