Position: Director and Professor, School of Art & Design, SIU Carbondale

Rank: Professor (with tenure)

Appointment Date : August 1, 2013

Qualifications: MFA, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree/professional equivalency in Art, Design, Art History, or Art Education required. Applicants must have academic qualifications consistent with appointment in the School of Art and Design at the rank of professor with tenure. Applicants must demonstrate an ongoing record of excellence in creative activity and/or scholarship; exceptional writing and interpersonal skills; ability to work cordially and productively with faculty, staff, and students of diverse backgrounds; and capacity for successful administrative work in areas such as personnel, curriculum, and recruitment.

Duties: The director provides leadership and guidance for a highly motivated and dynamic faculty and staff, working with them to promote and augment the School's curriculum, programs, and scholarly and artistic prominence. The Director usually teaches one course per semester; oversees all curricular, budgetary, programming, and personnel matters; and leads the school by enhancing its reputation and visibility in the state and nation through advocacy, public relations, grant-writing, and fund raising. The School: The School of Art and Design (SoAD) at SIU Carbondale offers programs leading to BA, BFA, and MFA degrees in a variety of areas of emphasis, including Art Education, Art History, Ceramics, Communication Design, Drawing, Glass, Industrial Design, Metalsmithing/Blacksmithing, Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture. 400 undergraduate majors combine intensive study in their areas of professional specialization with rigorous liberal arts coursework offered by the University Core Curriculum. The Graduate Program offers programs attracting students (45) from both the US and abroad, and SIU Carbondale has been nationally recognized by US News and World Report as a premier institution for graduate education in art. SIU Carbondale is rated a "Research University (high research activity)" by the Carnegie foundation, placing it among the top 139 public institutions in the nation.
