Job Description

MetLife is building a Global Technology center in Raleigh, NC. Our technology group develops innovative, customer-centric solutions in a collaborative and fast paced work environment. We are seeking experienced professionals to join our team and help us build a world-class Global Technology organization.
The successful candidate would be in a Sr. Developer or Architect role within Digital Marketing or Sales who has made the transition to managing an application development team, but still has hands on coding and development experience. The Director - Application Development, Digital Marketing is responsible for the design, development and implementation of applications following the full systems development lifecycle (SDLC).

Functional Responsibilities:
Manages organizing and implementing multiple and complex application development projects.

Responsible for the design and build of application development projects.

Day to day management of Development team (FTEs and Offshore) supporting new development, enhancements and production break-fix.

Develops work plans, schedules, estimates, resource plans and budget.

Conducts project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis.

Monitors project results for significant deviations; invokes contingency plans when necessary.

Ensures adherence to quality standards and reviews project deliverables.

Will provide Level 3 Production Management support.

Responsible for Application Vulnerability scans, Disaster Recovery tests, Systems and Performance Tests review and remediation.

System and Vendor software upgrade impact/benefit analysis, AD remediation and testing support.

Provide oversight and guidance to the Web Analytics and Site Response time management Program.

Manages external vendor and internal supplier client relations to ensure that application delivery expectations are developed, managed, and met.

Partners closely with the Application Development Planning team to ensure that technology agenda is tied to LOB plans.

Directs, motivates, and develops project staff. Identifies and addresses training and development needs of project managers and project teams.

Develops vendor statements of work, deliverables and Service Level Agreements.

Responsible for monthly financial management and administrative activities.

Performs related duties as assigned or requested.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Full people management responsibility, including hiring, firing, promotions, performance and compensation management, & training & development. Ensure vendor performance and deliverables meet contract specifications.

Job Requirements

Required Experience:
10+ years of application development experience including:
Server side languages: Java, J2ee, Web Services , JaxB, C++, C #
Client side languages: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery, Dojo, Ajax

5 years of experience in each of the following:
Minimum of 5 years of management experience, managing direct reports.

Experience working in a matrix management organization and leading cross functional teams.

Experience identifying and mitigating risk.

Experience in developing the foundational content and technical strategy for Responsive Designed Web Sites.

Hands on background in best practices coding and low level design for Digital Marketing mobile and desktop sites.

Experience with Vendor SaaS or On-Premise Web Content Management applications.

Experience managing an Offshore Development team.

Experience working with either an Agile or Waterfall development approach.

Experience managing Production platform stability and web site performance.

Preferred Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field preferred, or 12+ years of equivalent work experience.

Previous experience in Digital Marketing in the Financial Services or Insurance industries a plus.

Experience with Vignette, Tridion, Crown Peak a plus.

Excellent written and oral communication skills

MS Office; intermediate to advanced skills with Word, Excel, Power Point and Access
