Job Description

The Business Development Director possesses five core functions –
1) Develop and coach management associates responsible for strategic project management
2) Responsible for the execution of the project management role which develops/implements operational and technological business to business connectivity and logistics for our strategic firms
3) Work in conjunction with IPSG Divisional Sales Managers and Strategic Relationship Management, and strategic firm/senior level home office management to develop and/or enhance business operating models
4) Manages relationships with senior level internal MetLife, strategic firm, and vendor leadership associates, including the creation of a strategic firm initiative project document complete with financial expenditure analysis,
5) Responsible for the strategic planning and long-term automation capabilities of Broker/Dealer or insurance agency metric reports, including the ability to apply senior business analytic skills to the data contained within the metric reports.
Director of Business Development will work closely with Strategic Relationship Management Group (SRMG), DSMs, RSVPs, MetLife Operations and Firm Management Level Associates (Broker-Dealer and Insurance Agencies). Work volume is high and time sensitive. Travel involved – 25-40%.

Principal Responsibilities/Job Function:
Prior management experience – ability to effectively manage associates, create positive work environment.

Manages department budget and forecasting.

Responsible for the PDP of associates on the team. Establish short and long-term goals and objectives.

Consults with business leaders to determine business development needs for current and future planning.

Thorough understanding of the life insurance and/or annuity business. Product, Processes and Services.

Translates and communicates senior management vision, strategy, and business objectives related to strategic initiatives.

Partner with senior leadership from MetLife and strategic firms to develop and implement key initiatives (ie, HSBC).

Oversees the forecasting and development of the production of monthly reports for strategic firms and senior management (ie Segmentation, Dashboard).

Develop and implement customized training plans at the management level to strategic firms on MetLife products, processes, and services.

Analytic skills - Ability to identify trends, determine how to resolve issues (isolated or systemic).

Manages Life Firm Automation budget and allocates funding based on strategic project priority.

Leads project teams that span multiple business units to build and improve workflow and organizational practices.

Manages critical relationships with internal associates, vendors, and external firm associates and leadership.

Serve as point of contact (for both MetLife sales team and external firm associates) and responsible for introducing key MetLife concepts, tools and business units.

Prepares and monitors completion of complex summaries, presentations, and/or reports and presents information to MetLife and strategic firm senior leadership.

Conducts clear and concise presentations at on-site visits and/or via webex technology at strategic firm meetings (external and internal).

Job Requirements

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:
Previous Life Insurance, Annuity and/or Financial Services experience (11+ yrs experience).

Advanced knowledge of system applications and business management.

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.

Life Insurance license, Series 6 & 63 securities licenses preferred.

Excellent communication skills, oral and written, are required.

Strong business writing and presentation skills are required, regardless if one on one or large group setting.

Must possess the ability to communicate clearly amongst MetLife senior management, peers, Broker/Dealer home office associates and registered representatives.

Strong organizational & analytical skills are essential.

Must be proficient in utilization of web-based programs and possess strong computer skills – MS Office ( Excel, Powerpoint, Pivot Tables, & Word ).
