Under the general supervision of the Administrator/CEO, the Director Clinical Services is given the necessary authority and responsibility to operate all departments in all functions and activities subject only to the policies and procedures issued by the governing board. The Director Clinical Services primary responsibility lies in organizing and directing nursing and clinical services and ensuring the delivery of quality patient care. This position is required to use independent discretion and judgment with respect to supervisory and management decisions and recommendations. This position is required to be accessible 24/7 and have accountability of clinical service departments.
- Establishes and maintains the highest standard of clinical care for all hospital patients.
- Works with facility Safety Officer in implementing and maintaining programs for Patient Safety.
- Ensures clinical staff compliance with medical records guidelines and completes medical record audits within established time frames.
- Responsible for communicating with HR with all required paperwork, regarding open positions and assisting with the recruitment of clinical staff in order to provide adequate hospital staffing.
- Is accessible 24/7 to all clinical departments unless other arrangements have been made and communicated to the appropriate staff.
- Responsible for the oversight of adequate clinical staff to maintain quality patient care, including determining the types and numbers of nursing personnel and staff necessary to provide nursing care for all areas of the hospital.
- Ensures clinical staff remains in compliance with hospital and department policies and procedures.
- Ensures clinical staffs are competent to perform job duties.
- Holds monthly staff meetings ensuring appropriate information is reported and communicated.
- Participates in development and implementation of hospital fire, disaster, utilities, security, medical equipment, evacuation plans on an as needed basis.
- Collaborating with the hospital administrator; assists leadership from the governing body, medical staff and clinic areas in financial and strategic planning for the hospital as well as planning, promoting and conducting performance improvement activities
- Reviews and promptly acts on reports and recommendations from regulatory and inspecting agencies.
- Ensures ongoing review of hospital practices in order to maintain hospital licensure and accreditation.
- Ensures participation in developing and providing oversight to clinical department budgetary goals.
- When appropriate, communicates operational concerns and needs to administrator.
- Serves as hospital representative in its relationships with outside agencies and vendors.
- Demonstrates ability to resolve concerns and conflicts between patients, patients families, staff or external customers in a professional, proactive and courteous manner.
- Provides support and is actively involved in the Performance Improvement, Infection Control, PNT and Medical Staff Committees.
- Ensures The Joint Commission compliance across all clinical service lines.
- Reviews Incident Reports; monitors and tracks for potential trends or other possible problems/concerns.
- Provides clinical statistical analysis to the Administrator, Executive Committee and Governing Board.
- Consults with appropriate department heads in order to review and initiate organization-wide policies and procedures needed to accomplish hospitals goals, objectives and programs.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies governing healthcare delivery and the rules of the accrediting bodies.
- Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meetings as assigned.
- Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as a hospital representative.
- Develops, maintains and oversees all hospital forms and presents the appropriate forms to MEC.
- Keeps administrator apprised of risk management issues or areas of concern.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
· B.S. in Nursing preferred
· Masters degree in nursing, healthcare administration or business administration preferred
· Minimum two years direct care experience with leadership experience.
· Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
· Must be certified in CPR and ACLS if applicable.
· Must maintain current licensure in good standing during employment with this facility.
