The new Applied Research Center for Strong Communities and Schools (4STRONG) has an excellent opportunity for a DIRECTOR OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS DEVELOPMENT (RESEARCH SCIENTIST/ENGINEER 3). This new Center is a comprehensive interdisciplinary program designed to research, implement and help sustain social, educational and organizational interventions which foster the positive growth and development of individuals, families and communities. This is accomplished by engaging and connecting the University and faculty expertise with those seeking community based research and development partnerships.
Through collaboration, the goal is to promote the use of effective models of practice and data based decision making in order support partners as they envision and create strong systems, supports and educational opportunities. The general scope of your responsibilities will include: 1) Lead the development of grant and contract proposals to include federal, state, and local agencies, private and non-profit foundations, and to corporations. The Director for Educational Programs will plan, write, and develop multiple and significant funded projects. The Director will evaluate proposed or ongoing projects and interface with client/customer project managers, UW researchers, and the Director of the UWT 4STRONG Center for existing or proposed projects.
The Director will use their professional and research network to expand technical capabilities and identify new research opportunities. The Director will lead the writing of applied research proposals, develop the budget for proposed projects, edit/review proposals, work with grants and contracts offices at UWT and UWS to comply with applicable policies, and follow UW compliance and grants management procedures. The Director will nurture relationships with major grantors of external research and lead the development of grant funding. The Director will need to identify grant/project extensions and persuade customers/grantors to fund and initiate new project concepts and seek funding.
Technical research proposals will be developed and presentations to potential customers/grant sponsors will be made. 2) Independently develop and manage UWT 4 STRONG Center applied research priorities . The Director will make substantial contributions to determining feasibility of UWT 4STRONG Center applied research goals/objectives and will lead the Educational Programs of the Center. The Director will need to provide innovative problem-solving approaches to enhance organizational capabilities.
The Director will conduct applied research and evaluation in the effort to solve practical problems facing individuals, families, schools, and communities. The Director will need to develop and monitor individual project timelines, coordinate activities toward Center priorities, and make adjustments to achieve individual project and UWT 4STRONG Center objectives. Given the UWT 4STRONG Center priority area of collective impact, the Director will coordinate the activities of participants from public, private, profit, and non-profit sectors to achieve a common agenda of goals and constructive outcomes in educational achievement, social and emotional growth, and economic well-being. The Director will develop sound cross-sector working systems designed to solve challenges facing schools and the community.
3) Manage an expanding portfolio of locally- and federally-funded research projects. The Director will manage multiple and significant projects which will require the use of sophisticated project planning and research design techniques. The Director will manage, monitor, and reconcile budgets post-award. The Director will lead the creation of project reports to the sponsor of the research.
The Director will lead dissemination of project results in peer-reviewed journals, via conference presentations, practitioner (non peer-reviewed) journals, and UWT 4STRONG Center reports. The Director will serve in leadership capacities on funded projects, including the role as Principal Investigator, if appropriate. The Director will manage daily activities in light of project objectives, track project schedules, and manage the hiring of staff as needed. The Director will conduct applied research requiring independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation/modification of measures, research design, standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
The Director will lead Human Subjects Division applications in cases where research is not exempt from Human Subjects Division requirements. The Director will devise new approaches to problems encountered during planning, implementation, and dissemination of funded projects. The Director will chair and present sessions at international and regional conferences and technical meetings, present invited papers, participate in external seminars, workshops, professional societies and committees. 4) Lead and coordinate professional staff, classified staff, graduate research assistants and hourly undergraduate research assistants (To be hired pending grant funding and growth of the Center).
Coordinate scientists, faculty partners, and technicians on assigned grant proposals, dissemination of research, and fulfilling evaluation work. Provide major input to staffing of overall project teams. Build teams and staff to optimize efficiency and cost effectiveness of the UWT 4STRONG Center. 5) Research, develop, innovate and evaluate educational and community-based interventions for individuals, children, families, and service providers (e.g., educators or practitioners).
Innovations may include instructional approaches, interventions, professional development, preventive interventions (community, school, or district-wide), and data-based decision making or assessment tools with community partners. Innovate with educational agencies who support and serve families, children, and adolescents. Lead effort to develop data systems, data analysis tools, and problem-solving tools with educators and the agencies, schools, or companies they serve. Lead partners in the process of applying implementation science to implement and sustain evidence-based interventions in schools and alternative education settings.

Requirements: ⢠Doctoral degree or significant professional experience in Education, Special Education, Educational or School Psychology, or related field ⢠Minimum of 5 years of experience and expertise in these areas: o Leadership of systems change in community agencies serving individuals, children, and families o Research and evaluation of community-based interventions for children, adolescents, or service providers o Research design, methodology, and psychological/educational measurement ⢠Strong organizational skills ⢠Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and the Statistical Program for the Social Sciences ⢠Excellent communication and collaboration skills ⢠Proficiency with working independently ⢠Expertise collaborating with community agencies, private sector leadership, education leaders, public school and University staff and faculty Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. Desired: ⢠Track record of successful federal, state, and/or local grant funding ⢠Development of data systems, data analysis tools, and data-based decision making ⢠Leadership using implementation science to drive the process of using and sustaining evidence-based interventions in communities ⢠Dissemination of research findings via peer-reviewed publications ⢠Expertise with Response to Intervention, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, or multi-level prevention systems in schools and facilities.
