Responsibilities Scheduled to open August 1, 2013, Scott & White Hospital in College Station is seeking a high performing leader to plan, design and build a team of clinically competent and caring staff for the Emergency Services department of our new 119 bed acute care facility. Our community hospital, designed by clinicians, incorporates many of the latest trends in health care design and will provide a comprehensive array of medical services to include; Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, Robotic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Labor/Delivery, NICU, Emergency Services (Trauma Level III Designation), ICU/CCU, Invasive Imaging, Comprehensive Cancer Care, Gastroenterology, Neurosciences, Pulmonary, Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation. As a member of the leadership team, the Director of Emergency Services will have a unique opportunity to open a new hospital from the construction and start-up phase to a fully integrated and patient focused health care facility. He/she will be responsible for a 22-bed Emergency Department assuring the provision of emergency care for patients, encompassing a wide range of patient populations to support the services of the health care facility and the community needs. In addition, the Director of Emergency Services will have the opportunity to work with a highly dedicated and advanced medical staff to develop service line programs such as Level III trauma designation and stroke & chest pain center accreditation in addition to being a key member of the emergency/disaster response team.

Oversees the operational, personnel and fiscal management of areas of responsibility with an emphasis on high quality, cost-effective patient care.
CREATES AN ENVIRONMENT THAT PROMOTES SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY
*Conducts and participates in daily rounds to identify immediate needs, monthly patient room rounds, and monthly Environment of Care Rounds and Patient Safety Rounds, acts on findings in a timely manner.
*Monitors equipment functionality and needs acquiring staff and physician input.
OVERSEES QUALITY IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVES
*Establishes, monitors and revises unit specific policies and scopes of care which align with system documents.
*Establishes annual unit specific quality improvement goals; conducts monitoring, analysis, process changes, reporting and re-evaluation of prepared goals to Nursing Quality Control.
*Investigates adverse events; reviews data and findings, assessing for trends, acting on staff remediation needs and identifying opportunities for development/improvement.
*Participates and assures staff compliance with organizational and/or regulatory quality initiatives, i.e. JCAHO core measures.
MAINTAINS EMPLOYEE, PATIENT AND PHYSICIAN SATISFACTION
*Collaborates with non-nursing departments to establish processes which address issues which enhance the provision of patient care and satisfaction.
*Implements nursing department and unit specific strategies which address areas which highly correlate to patient satisfaction.
*Establishes and carries out plans of action to address annual Employee and Medical
Staff Survey findings.
*Responds to complaints in timely and expeditious manner.
OVERSEES PROVISION OF PATIENT CARE
*Conducts routine rounds on select patient groups.
*Collaborates with other departments with an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
*Monitors quality of care using a variety of methods to assess areas for improvement.
OVERSEES PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS
*Administers personnel policies related to selection, orientation, training, assignment, staffing and evaluation and discipline of staff members.
*Oversees staff competencies to include development of competencies, current and accurate documentation, annual review and revision of competencies. Assures staff competencies are current.
*Consistently applies disciplinary actions as needed to include addressing absenteeism and tardiness in a timely manner.
*Prepares and administers performance evaluations which include achievable and measurable clinical, professional and personal goals for all levels of staff.
PREPARES, MONITORS, ANALYZES AND CONTROLS FINANCIAL ASPECTS OF AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY.
*Monitors productivity daily, addressing variances from established standards, adjusts staffing to maintain productive standard.
*Controls non-salary expenses to volume-adjusted budgeted numbers.
*Establishes and revises systems and processes to support ongoing controls of all aspects of the budget.
ENCOURAGES AND OBTAINS EMPLOYEE INPUT ON DECSION MAKING AND SELF GOVERNANCE.
*Creates an atmosphere where staffs actively seek opportunities to address concerns.
*Establishes opportunities to acquire input, to include unit monthly Action Unit
Committees, input at staff meetings and other creative mechanisms.
*Promotes professional development of staff to include assisting with maintenance/enhancement of career ladder and involving staff on task forces and committees.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:
*Master's degree preferred.
*Basic computer skills, including payroll processing, e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets required.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years leadership experience required.
Trauma Services management experience preferred.
License/Certificate: Registered (Professional) Nursing License.
ACLS, TNCC certifications preferred, or obtained w/ 1 year of employment.
