Directs the activities related to the analysis, design, programming, debugging, troubleshooting, and modification of software for firmware (IC embedded code) applications. Oversees programming and/or integration activities involving analog and digital hardware and software operating systems. May have responsibility for the programming of assembly language, machine language and high level languages, including but not limited to C and C . Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct reports typically include people managers with subordinates; emphasis is placed on providing overall leadership, coaching, development, performance management and providing global and strategic vision to the team
Recruits, retains and maximizes staff performance by building critical skills; ensures succession and development plans are in place for key positions
Provides input to strategy and operating plans
Responsible for executing and managing the day-to-day operations of his/her team(s)
Recommends changes to operating procedures
Sets and follows priorities from multiple sources.
Interfaces with program managers & cross functional manager toward timely product FW releases.
Makes sure team members follow FW development policy.
Recruits
Leads and participates in customer design reviews
Primary contact point for organization
Establishes organizational objectives and policies
Directs and controls the activities of the organization
Interacts internally and externally with e4xecutive level management
Mentor subordinate managers
Sets technical direction for the department

B.S. 12 or more yrs experience
MS 10 or more yrs related experience
PhD 8 or more yrs related experience
8 yrs managing employees

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :
Strong technical skill in troubleshooting and solving interrelated problems with ASIC, servo, read/write, etc
Strong firmware development process skills
Previous use and understanding of assemblers, compilers, linkers, ICE’s etc.
Familiar with test methodologies to mature drive products in most efficient Time to Market (TTM) environment.
Able to drive successful customer qualifications
Understands and accepts priority changes
Highly driven to solve problems quickly. (Understands customer urgency!)
