Job Summary

Directs the operations and strategic planning of Information Technology activities and services and financial management in supporting the University of Utah’s goals and mission. Acts as a catalyst between departments, faculty, physicians and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service. Establishes, plans, and administers the overall policies and goals for the information technology department. Analyzes the needs of different departments and determines ways to meet business objectives by modifying existing or developing new information processing systems.


Represents the physicians in all matters related to ITS initiatives, including establishment of priorities and timelines. Works closely with physician groups to develop criteria for clinical and business data marts (Universes in the Business Objects application) and then coordinates the development of these universes with the Data Warehouse Team. Oversees the UUMG IT staff who will help with report development for the Business Objects application. Works with the UUMG IT Committee on budgets, software evaluation and acquisition, reporting, and customization and support staffing. Oversees the UUMG Data Warehouse staff and initiatives. Manages IT staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related computer science, Business Administration, or related area, or equivalency; eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required


Experience with Business Objects, EPIC , EMR Implementation, Physician Documentation, and clinical databases/data warehouse management preferred.
