The Director of Product Design will be responsible for delivering innovative products with meaningful consumer benefits for key areas of responsibility for the Sleep Number brand. We leverage consumer insights and direct consumer interactions to create products that will establish Sleep Number as the new standard in sleep. This role will require a strategic mindset, critical thinking, collaboration and execution with cross functional teams on behalf of the consumer. Projects will require leadership of multi-year, multi-million dollar development plans, leading development activities that will require a strong business acumen and engagement through all phases of the development cycle. The role will include regular reviews with senior management to ensure alignment on business objectives and resource allocation. Responsibilities:

Lead collaboration across broad cross functional teams to develop products with feature and benefits in support of product positioning and progress against multi-year product line goals
Set the design vision for the Sleep Number brand of products through collaborative leadership of an industrial design team
Manage communication to cross-functional groups regarding on-going product improvements
Understands business processes and business systems. Understand in-market needs of new products and ensure products and systems are developed in support of in-market goals
Performs analysis and evaluation of options, alternatives of product development paths
Understand trends in the industry and with the competition Qualifications:

6 to 8 years’ experience in product design
Able to demonstrate a track record of meaningful product innovation, brand elevation and/or product experience transformation
Possesses a clear and solid working knowledge of product construction concepts
Possess working knowledge in design, development, research, engineering, materials, and manufacturing
Photoshop and Illustrator proficiency
Demonstrate an ability to identify relevant competitive trends or activities and create actionable recommendations based on competitive forces
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Engineering or Related field
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills – ability to prioritize – multi-task oriented.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
Ability to travel 5 to10%
