The purpose of this job is to provide leadership and overall direction to the Product Development, Color Technology and Product Evaluation groups. This position is responsible for the analysis, benchmarking, development, testing, scale-up, and maintenance of coatings, color prescriptioning and evaluation of competitive products. This includes technology development strategy, sales support, budgets, reporting, staffing, performance management and employee development.
Works with key stakeholders to understand business requirements and expectations in order to develop strategic direction for the Development Group.
Maintains knowledge of current and emerging trends in the industry, including all relevant areas of coatings might be incorporated as new technologies into future platforms.
Collaborates with sales, marketing, operations, strategic planning and Senior Management to determine competitiveness of new technologies and to develop new products.
Collaborates with Quality Control and Quality Assurance functions to ensure uniformity and consistency in manufacturing.
Collaborates with Technical Director to ensure strategic direction of Product Development and Delta Teams aligns with overall Corporate strategy
Establishes direction, goals and processes for each part of the Product Development team.
Provides prioritization of projects for Managers, allocates resources and sets reasonable deadlines for completion.
Collaborates with third party vendors to ensure that the vendor's strategic direction is in alignment with the organization's direction .
Communicates current and future statuses as it relates to current and future projects and direction related to these projects.
Provides an environment that fosters product innovation and development to meet and exceed customer expectations.
Oversees development and planning of Product Vision software to ensure efficient formulation, adequate security of formulas and reliable batch ticket information.
Participates in the hiring of the Product Development staff.
Develops appropriate performance review objectives; provide day-to-day coaching with the management team; and conduct annual performance reviews.
Provides mentoring for all levels of team members.
Provides technical sales assistance when required.
Develops and monitors budget for Product Development, Color Technology and Product Evaluation.
A Bachelor's degree (BS, BA) required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred in Chemistry.
Ten or more years of work experience in a coatings or chemical product development environment is preferred.
Minimum of 7+ years of management experience
Available to travel domestically and internationally.

Strong interpersonal, teamwork and problem-solving skills in order to deal with customers, business partners, staff and management from a variety of skill levels as well as different authority levels within organization and customer base.
Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and accountability for annual budgets over $10 million dollars.
