Summary: The Supply Chain director will have responsibility for planning and procurement of materials in support of all product lines across Brooks Automation. This will include the development of processes, systems, and personnel to efficiently and cost effectively assure the continuity of material supply in support of the production operations and service centers. Areas of responsibility include production planning, procurement, tactical supplier management, transactional integrity, and inventory control. This position will standardize business processes, tools and measurements, and initiate the use of automated methods and reporting wherever possible. This position will lead and manage a supply chain team of approximately thirty employees and is based in Chelmsford MA with additional responsibility for manufacturing operations in California, Colorado and Monterrey Mexico.
Position Accountabilities: Manage factory support functions including planning, procurement, inventory, material handling and logistics, transactions, cost, variance analysis, and supplier non-conformances. This individual must continue the implementation and integration of the Oracle ERP solution throughout our operations. Also, will be expected to develop the supply chain team into comprehensive buyers/planners who own the material to and through their work areas. This person will team with the production and manufacturing engineering groups to manage the operation and ensure customer satisfaction (quality, delivery, lead time, responsiveness, cost control, and continual improvement). Manage overall inventory throughout the operation and regional sales and service centers. Includes but not limited to physical inventory, cycle counting, excess and obsolete, and reserve management. Develop cost reduction programs or initiatives and metrics upon which to qualify and evaluate current and potential suppliers. Drive value engineering initiatives with suppliers and product/manufacturing engineering resulting in realized bottom line total-landed-cost reductions. Drive the supply partner mentality into our teams and our supply base through collaborative cost down/sharing initiatives, and coordinate supplier partnering in new product development. Encourage collaboration and sharing of new ideas and methodologies through supplier meetings and on-going account management resulting in continual quality improvement and reduced total-landed-cost. Support new production introductions and engineering development projects from the concept phase through the release of a product into production. The bill of materials must be transactional through the development phase, and the supply chain team ensures that all prototype and alpha-phase procurement is sourced from production ready suppliers. Ensure that solid business processes are in place and being adhered to by the entire materials organization. Develop the organizational processes, systems, and capability to the extent that he/she is no longer required to participate in day-to-day execution.
Required Skills: Brooks Automation requires a senior planning and procurement professional who is excellent in materials management and logistics. Specifically, someone with the demonstrated ability to successfully develop, communicate and execute a materials strategy. The ideal candidate will be a materials subject expert within a company that develops and markets complex low volume, high mix, high margin technology-oriented products. The candidate should have experience in the implementation of lean manufacturing principals and a broad knowledge of quality tools and continual improvement methodologies. A technical degree preferred with at least 10 years of materials experience in a management/leadership position – direct responsibility for procurement, planning, production control, inventory management, material cost and variance reconciliation. Demonstrated success with materials cost reduction strategies, supplier selection and development, integrated supplier programs for kan-ban and/or just-in-time materials delivery. Experienced APICS and Certified professional. Extensive hands-on experience and understanding of ERP and Oracle 11i systems and data mining required. Process focused and demonstrated problem solving methodologies and toolkit. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated project management skills. Understanding of P&L statement and balance sheet metrics. A high energy driven professional and a dynamic leader.
