As the senior subject matter expert for Amylin, the incumbent will lead environmental health and safety programs for the company. The Director of Environmental Health & Safety will direct the strategy, development, implementation and monitoring of Amylin’s occupational safety and environmental regulatory compliance programs, taking Federal and State laws and regulations into account (for example OSHA, CalOSHA, and other regulatory bodies which are safety or environment related). RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop and align with executive leadership on an appropriate EH&S strategy for Amylin.Supervise the EH&S team and ensure their goals are aligned with Amylin’s overarching strategy and plans for health and safety.Implement the strategy taking into account all State and Federal laws while at the same time identifying solutions that meet business operations needs and budgetary requirements.Develop EH&S policies and procedures; ensure deployment of necessary training curriculum to ensure employee compliance with policy.Design, implement and oversee general injury, illness prevention and health and safety programs .Oversee all accident and injury investigations and reporting including worker’s compensation claims.Manage the design and delivery of safety programs for Amylin including laboratory safety, manufacturing safety, field sales and office ergonomics.Ensure that all hazardous wastes, including biowaste and radioactive materials, are disposed of appropriately.Ensure that all controlled substances are handled, moved and utilized in a manner compliant with the law.Manage internal and external audits; identify gaps and corrective actions and drive compliance and continuous improvement mentality within EH&S.Audit external vendors such as hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities.Interact with regulatory agencies (Air Polution Control District, DEA, City Fire Dept, County Dept of Environmental Health, etc.) and ensure all licenses and permits are up to date.Maintain department and program metrics; provide reports to Amylin senior management on a quarterly basis.Manage department budget.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, industrial hygiene, engineering, science or related field. Professional certification preferred, i.e.
CIH, CSP, etc.Minimum of 10 years relevant experience, preferrably in biopharmaceuticals R&D and manufacturing in a GMP environment. Must have direct implementation and/or management experience with ISO 14001. OSHAS 18001 experience preferred.Strong conceptual thinker and with excellent communication and analytical skillsStrong project and process management expertiseProven ability to deliver results on time, with the available resources, and within budget.Proven ability to work on multiple projects and with multiple individuals simultaneouslyAbility to synthesize complex problems, identifying their related business implications and the actions necessary to advocate a recommended outcomeStrong influencing, negotiation and persuasion skills to be applied across the organizationExcellent written and verbal communication skillsREQUIREMENTS:Be able to lift up to 40 pounds on a daily basis.
