Job FunctionThe Director of Risk Management will be responsible for developing and administering the insurance and risk management programs for the Company.Responsibilities
Procure and oversee the companys insurance policies, including analyzing the types of policies obtained and scope of coverage; analyzing and negotiating premiums and terms and conditions; maintaining strong relationships with existing insurance carriers and developing relationships with new insurance markets; staying abreast of market trends and industry practices; developing property-specific valuations and premium allocations; reviewing policies for accuracy and completeness of coverage; and ensuring compliance with ongoing policy requirements; Manage relationships with third party service providers, including brokers, consultants, third-party administrators and insurance carriers; Manage the reporting, handling and settling of insurance claims, and analyze loss history and develop policies to help mitigate the frequency and severity of claims; Oversee and administer insurance required of the company by third parties and insurance required of third parties by the company, including drafting, negotiating and ensuring compliance with contractual provisions and other applicable requirements and monitoring and reviewing vendor and tenant certificates of insurance; Perform risk management due diligence related to potential acquisitions and development opportunities, and integrate new properties into risk management processes; Assist with the development and administration of emergency response and business continuity plans and health and safety policies, and ensure compliance with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements; Oversee the obtaining of surety bonds, and track renewals and expirations
Work with Property Management department, brokers and insurance carriers to oversee and administer portfolio-wide policies and procedures for loss control activities and property inspections; Develop policies and procedures and provide training and educational materials to employees on insurance and risk management; Work with Legal department to provide advice on coverage issues and litigation, and ensure compliance with laws and regulations; Administer internal RMIS Software; Support enterprise risk assessment, internal audit projects and other risk management related projects across the organization
Strong knowledge and experience with placement of insurance and coverage issues (including commercial property, casualty, workers compensation, environmental, directors & officers liability and other financial/professional lines), with knowledge of domestic and foreign insurance markets, OCIPs/CCIPs and self-insurance and captive insurance opportunities; Experience with insurance claim reporting and settlement; Experience with developing and administering risk management policies and procedures; Experience with drafting, reviewing and negotiating contractual insurance requirements in leases, service contracts and construction and loan agreements; Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures, and laws and regulations relating to insurance, risk management and health and safety, within the real estate and construction fields; Strong analytical skills, vendor and project management skills, and attention to detail; Flexibility, with the ability to handle multiple, diverse tasks with short deadlines; Bachelors Degree; Minimum of eight (8) years experience in a similar position with comparable business experience; Proven leadership, management and organizational skills with a track record of results; Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; Familiarity with RMIS Software
