The Director, Digital Marketing is a key member of Gap Inc. Direct's (GID) divisional Digital Marketing organization - with responsibility for driving digital marketing programs including SEO, SEM, Affiliates, Display Media and emerging programs. Responsibility spans Gap Inc.'s five brands (Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Piperlime and Athleta), globally.

For this role, we are seeking and individual with experience leading mature teams, developing and maintaining marketing platforms, driving innovation and prioritizing with an eye toward tactical and strategic objectives. The successful candidate will likely come from the online division of a multi channel retailer or marketing leadership role within an online pure play retailer. S/he should will have experience in multiple digital marketing channels and in leading teams responsible for at least two distinct channels. S/he will have had responsibility for a budget of over $10M in an organization with over $100M in online sales. This is a tremendous opportunity for an individual to lead an expanding digital marketing team at America's largest specialty apparel retailer.

Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for SEO, SEM, affiliates, and display media marketing channels for GID. Drive substantial portion of site traffic across all five brands. Ensure platforms are high functioning, high performing and stable. Drive innovation in these and emerging channels. Profitably grow the business and generate incremental revenue.

Drive profitability of the business, including investment for each program. Oversee budget for key programs to maximize opportunities and return on investment. Work with budgeting/operations team to manage contracts, purchase orders, statements of work and invoices.

Set processes and procedures for ensuring platform stability and program growth. Improve efficiency by initiating strategic enhancements and upgrades with business systems and work flow. Identify opportunities that will drive business performance.

Manage total team of six, including three direct reports. Responsible for setting direction and goals of the organization to meet ongoing business objectives. Drive ongoing evaluation of team structure, job descriptions and workflow.

Support Digital Marketing international team with actual toolsets or guidance should they vary form domestic partners.

Partner with internal business partners and online brand teams to understand business strategies and execute of their seasonal programs. Establish best practices and educate internal constituents. Provide insight on budget allocation, including new opportunities and shifting of spend from lower to higher performing programs.

Partner with Digital Marketing Analytics and Strategy team on measurement and evaluation of new programs and partners.

Own relationships with third-party agencies and service providers. Manage process of validating new partner leads. Drive contract negotiations, in partnership with Strategic Sourcing.

Work closely with Product Management and IT to ensure appropriate integration of programs with our ecommerce platform.

Knowledge of online players, traffic dynamics, revenue models, and emerging trends/technologies.

Technical understanding of online tracking technologies (static/dynamic pixels, cookies, HTTP protocols), advances in web technologies and serving infrastructures (CDNs, mobile web, etc). Must be able to have a technical conversation with engineering/product management/IT teams.

Ability to read and interpret a variety of business agreements, ensuring that business goals and objectives are being met, agreements are consistent with Gap Inc guidelines and legal standards. Must be able to negotiate terms and conditions with vendors and partners across a wide variety of verticals to ensure.

Track record of attracting, hiring, developing and retaining top talent.

Calculated risk taker with a balance of thought leadership and execution savvy to ensure the appropriate level of rigor at each phase of execution.

Ability to foster and build effective working relationships with key constituents inside and outside the company.

Strong written and verbal communications and a track record of being politically savvy is critical.

Ability to learn new tools quickly - there are no expectations of pre-existing skills with specific tools.

Track record of building consensus between a variety of stakeholders, yet biased to decisive action to drive toward goals.


4-year degree in Marketing, Finance, or Statistics is required. MBA strongly desired.

10+ years relevant professional experience.

Experience managing teams of at least three, ideally managing managers of others.

Reports to Senior Director, Digital Marketing.

Hands on experience with marketing or marketing analytics is a requirement.

Willingness to participate and grow in a cutting edge entrepreneurial atmosphere, with the stability and resources of a large organization.
