Title: Director of Accounting/Controller

Reports To: S VP, Finance
Purpose: Responsible for managing the month end close, related journal entries, financial statement preparati on and related analyses. Other responsibilities include the oversight of agency’s cash receipt processing, balance sheet account reconciliations; agency capital spend and capital funding requests, the maintenance of an Excel workbook of all Grants awarded the agency and annual financial audit. Position must function effectively with the Finance -Accounting Department staff , Agency Development and Senior Management Team s .
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A. Provides timely and accurate reporting of Financial Activity § Responsible for the month end accounting close process and preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements for ag ency including income statement, balance sheet , cash flows , capital spend and project accoutning in accordance with established deadlines.
§ Represents the Agency in Financial and Accounting issues during the absence of the CFO.
B Preserves Financial Integrity
§ Oversees monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts to the general ledger in addition to assigned account reconciliations .
§ Oversees cash receipt processing and reporting for cash flow analyses .
§ Tracks agency capital spend including internally developed software.
§ Key contact and support for agency personnel in the development of capital funding requests in accordance with agency governance . P rovides guidance on accounting treatment.
§ Provides financial analyses, as needed, for capital invesments, pricing decisions and contract negotiations.
§ Along with the CFO, p erforms review of the monthly reconciliation of the agency trust bank account and CPR system activity.
§ Tracks and reports use of restricted grant funds and deferred revenue monthly .
C Administrative and Budgeting
§ Coordinates subordinate staff work assignments and performs essential back-up functions for department staff.
§ Analyzes process flows and procedures and makes recommendations for streamlining and improving efficiency.
§ Gathers and prepares requested documentation for compliance audits of the Agency as requested .
§ Completes special projects and research as assigned.
§ Completes analyses of revenue, expenses , capital and program initiatives and reporting for the annual budget and any re-forecasts .
This position may have one direct report.

Education and/or Experience:
l Bachelor’s degree in accounting, from an accredited college or university, and a minimum of 10 years of strong accounting experience with month end close, financial statement preparation and analyses, and multi-bank account reconciliations;
l Demonstrated experience in the application and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles; l CPA mandatory; l Demonstrated e xperience in managing the work of others, setting goals, evaluating performance and coaching of subordinates in work related areas
l Good interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work and manage well in a diverse workplace.
l Strong, proven computer proficiency w ith the Microsoft Office Suite of Applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point);
l Applied working knowledge of Accounting Software, including reporting and planning (budget) tools (e.g. FRX, Hy perion, Microsoft-Great Plains, Oracle, SAS, Forecaster, or SAGE, etc.)
l Work experience with Not for Pro fit Accounting desired; l Proven ability to handle multiple t asks and to prioritize workflow;
l Strong written and verbal communication skills;
l Adaptable, flexible working alone or in a group;
l Process oriented, self starter with a mature perspective to work effectively in a fast paced, fluid, environment ;
l Effective time management and proven ability to meet deadlines are a must;
l Must have satisfactory credit history .
