Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Admissions & Financial Aid, the Director of Admissions provides strategic, dynamic, and creative leadership in the management of a broad-based admissions program that recruits, admits, and enrolls academically talented students. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and accomplished professional to join a progressive enrollment management team. The Director administers recruitment activities that consider changing goal demographics and competitive markets, effective marketing, strategic outreach and travel, the campus visit experience, and key performance indicators including predictive modeling and yield management. The department manages all functions to receive and complete a holistic review of applications, transcripts, and other academic documents to ensure the timely and accurate processing of materials. The Director provides robust staff management by defining the duties and responsibilities of staff, assessing performance and providing feedback, and designing training and staff development opportunities. The successful candidate will analyze data to assess and shape admissions objectives, and will continue the institution’s record of improving the academic profile and diversity of its entering classes by using innovative recruitment technologies and techniques. The Director will have a high profile both internally and externally, and will collaborate with a broad array of constituents including numerous Student Affairs offices, Academic Affairs, the North Dakota University System office, as well as parents, students, and alumni. The Director oversees 26 staff with 2 direct reports, and manages a departmental budget of approximately $1.5 million.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, five years of progressively responsible experience in college recruitment and admissions (or closely related enrollment management area), and three years of supervisory experience, including hiring, evaluation, supervision, motivation, and training of professional and student staff. Successful candidates will also demonstrate working knowledge of the admission process, including recruitment/yield strategies, admission cycle, and application processing; ability to establish collegial relationships with diverse students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the community. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in higher education administration, communications, marketing, business, or closely related field; experience working with Hobsons, PeopleSoft, and ImageNow platforms; experience working with holistic review admission processes; and understanding of innovative technology and media in recruitment and admission processes.
