Scope of Position
The Director of Banquets is responsible to ensure the smooth running of the entire Banquet Operation consisting of over 40,000 sq feet of Conference space.
Is a liaison of all effecting departments (Stewarding, Kitchen, and Conference Services). To administer the successful planning, organization, and coordination of all banquet floor activities including exceptional 5 diamond service execution, labor forecasting and control (scheduling), leading a management and service team of service professionals to a common goal for the guest, service professionals, owner and brand awareness.
Proficient in the English language (verbal & written), second language is an asset.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience in a luxury hotel Operation.
Knowledge of Meeting Matrix,
, Excel, Word and Micros system.
University or College Degree in the Hospitality Industry.
Must be flexible in terms of working hours.
Must be physically fit in order to lift items up to 50 pounds.
Must have great leadership and communication skills.
Must effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by colleagues and guests.
Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
Must be able to handle a multitude of tasks in an intense, ever-changing environment.
Must be effective at handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
Must possess outstanding guest services skills, professional presentation and sophisticated communication skills.

Greets all guests courteously, using the guest’s name whenever possible.
Demonstrates Turnberry’s Service Standards in all interactions.
Remains observant and responds to each guest who passes through the conference center.
Close working relationship with the Culinary Team, communicating information to the kitchen and other supportive departments (stewarding) prior to and during events.
Build a service culture that is characterized by specialists, providing engaging service, and creating memorable events
Lead by planning, communicating, ensuring ongoing training and executing all standards in a timely and efficient manner.
Ensure banquet managers and service professionals are assigned appropriate work specific functions and tasks and are
to the expectations set forth by the banquet department.
Ensure quality guest service at all times and ensure hotel standards are adhered to
Ensure all hotel standards are adhered to as outlined in the employee handbook
Hold monthly communication meetings plus daily pre, mid and post briefings with leaders and service professionals.
Make decisions that are in the best interest of our constituents – service professionals, guests, owners, and brand.
Follow details as required on printed information, convention resumes, and banquet event orders.
Ensure communication log book information is inputted and passed on shift to shift
Set the highest standards specific to grooming and overall professionalism.
Ensure all situations are handled with our values in mind – Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Empowerment.
Ensure all room set-ups are accurate, timely and meet established standards.
Ensure maintenance of all equipment is maintained, through an ongoing deficiency program
Meet clients for specific rooms and functions
Follows Hotel’s telephone etiquette standards.
Follows Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
Reports suspicious people, behavior, and vehicles to Security
Performs other duties or projects as assigned by Director of Food and Beverage.
Interview, hire, train, resolve problems, provide open communication and recommend discipline and/or termination when appropriate
Responsible for receiving, processing and investigating complaints made per the existing harassment policy.
Skills and Ability to
: Work independently and exercise sound judgment within established guidelines; understand and implement administrative policies and procedures; conduct administrative research and analysis; collect, evaluate and interpret varied data, evaluate alternatives and reach sound conclusions; use word processing, graphics, spreadsheet and database programs to develop reports, databases and communications materials; compose correspondence; type at rate of 50 net words per minute from printed copy; coordinate multiple projects and meet critical deadlines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time in front of a computer screen; intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding desk; perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; use telephone and computer keyboard on a daily basis; occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds.
