West Virginia University School of Medicine, Department of Neurology invites applications and nominations for Director of Clinical Stroke Research. Significant resources for infrastructure and faculty recruitment have been allocated to expand our current center into a comprehensive stroke treatment and research center. This expansion is a collaborative initiative between the WVU Health Sciences Center and WVU Hospitals, and among multiple clinical and basic science departments.
Qualified applicants should be an MD or MD/PhD with strong clinical skills and a track record of extramural funding. Applicants should hold board certification in neurology with additional certification in vascular neurology or be an expert in clinical stroke care/stroke research by experience.. The selected candidate may also receive an appointment into the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. Faculty rank is expected to be at the Associate or Full Professor level, although junior faculty with exceptional talent will also be considered.
The Director of Clinical Stroke Research will be the representative of stroke patients and health care providers by communicating with and educating the populace and political leaders of the state of West Virginia and representing stroke initiatives for state and federal support. They will establish a national reputation for the stroke center by creating the infrastructure to conduct a large range of clinical trials, offering the latest treatments, maintaining and extending certification levels of the program and establishing a nationally recognized stroke fellowship program. They will increase the volume of stroke patients treated at WVUH and improve stroke outcomes. They will lead recruitment of other clinician/scientists and clinical trials support personnel and participate in translational and basic science recruitments.
