The Director of Compliance is responsible under the direction of the Senior Vice President for identifying, providing and maintaining comprehensive resources, documents, information on legal obligations, policies, and procedures to assure company-wide compliance with all governing programs, including, but not limited to NYC Rent Stabilization, 421a tax abatement programs, J51 tax abatement programs, HUD affordable housing program regulations, Section 42 Tax-Credit affordable housing programs, Bond programs, building compliance programs, and all applicable Fair Housing and Human Rights statutes.

This position hires, trains, maintains and supervises sufficient staff to meet the requirements of the department and is responsive to the President, Regional and District Manager/s, the Training and Development team, Owners, Asset Managers, Project-based Contract Administrators, Agency contacts, and other executives and officers of Related.

Pursuing and maintaining current, comprehensive knowledge of full scope of compliance programs to which Related and the sites under Related’s management must comply and assuring awareness of and procedural guidelines for administering and maintaining compliance with those programs.

Assuring timely, effective distribution of comprehensive, accurate compliance guidelines. Staying abreast of changes/pending changes in regulatory programs and procedures and initiating departmental action in conjunction with Training and Operations to facilitate appropriate changes company wide.

Hiring, training, maintaining and supervising sufficient staff with appropriate skill sets to carry out the responsibilities of the compliance department.

Maintaining and reporting on comprehensive information to communicate the status of compliance with critical programs to managers, directors, executives and others with a need to know.

The ideal candidate will have proven ability, experience and skills in the following:
• Strong supervisory/leadership skills
• Strong data management skills with significant attention to detail
• Ability to read, comprehend, and abstract regulatory agreements, etc. - prefer some experience with Housing Regulatory Programs
• Effective communication skills; ability to interface effectively and professionally with executives, Owners, Asset managers, agency representatives, department staff.
• Strong Computer skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize, track and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team of professionals
