Sapling Learning is an industry innovator in the field of interactive online homework for higher education and K-12 levels Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics ("STEM") disciplines. The future sees us expanding our product offerings to incorporate eBook and other content and media. To keep up with the creative pace, we recently moved into a larger office in downtown Austin to accommodate staff growth.

Position Description:
The Director of Content is responsible for managing all aspects of the new content development process at Sapling Learning in order to develop and enrich the most effective learning products that integrate best-of-breed interactive online homework, assessment, media, eBook, and other content and media.

To bring new products to market, the Director of Content will work with the General Manager and Market Development Manager to envision and scope out potential future content products; will create budgets and staffing plans for development of new content products and content enhancements to existing products; will hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and mentor Program Managers, Content Product Leads, and Project Managers.

Major Responsibilities

Works with the GM, Marketing group (including the Market Development Manager), and Program Managers to assist the GM in determining what new products Sapling Learning will create.
Collaborates with the Director of Instructional Support to determine strategies for the enhancement and creation of new content needed to improve existing products.
Works with Program Managers, Content Product Leads and Product Marketing to specify new software and features required for new disciplines or additional content types.
Establishes and monitors budgets and timelines for all content development by working with the Director of Finance and reports on the budget performance for each product line.
Hires, trains and mentor authors and contract authors.
Oversees the project management for the company's various content projects in different stages of completion. Regularly meets with each team to maximize productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness. Offers corrective actions to assure products are of the highest possible quality and are delivered within budget and on schedule. Regularly reports the status of each project to stakeholders.

Required Skills / Knowledge

Strong Excel/spreadsheet skills required
Experience and aptitude using an online homework system
Teaching experience Higher Ed (preferred) or High School
Product management or product marketing experience
Experience with project management software

Experience Needed

Experience in budget creation and project management
Strong Excel/spreadsheet skills required
Computer/tech savvy
Experience in digital content creation
3+ years management/leadership experience
Minimum 2 years project management experience
Minimum 3 years creating original, interactive digital content

Educational Background Required

Master's or Ph.D Degree in a problem-solving field of study such as Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Instructional Design or 4+ years equivalent experience developing digital learning content and leading development teams for a problem solving discipline.
