Advertised Summary Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Communications and working closely with the Executive Vice President for Communications, and schools and departments throughout Columbia University, the Director of Creative Services is responsible for the management of the Office of Publications, a full-service creative studio that provides branding, advertising, signage, presentations, displays, and print and digital communications to the University. Responsibilities include: - Supervising approximately 15 employees including creative, account, production, administrative and technology staff. - Leading creative team in their work designing a wide variety of high impact and inspiring communications materials. - Providing brand leadership. As the owner of the Columbia University brand ensure it is being used appropriately and effectively in all communications. - Developing logo and identity guides that follow University style for all campuses. - Meeting with clients to develop communication design and messaging direction for University student recruitment, public awareness, fundraising, and internal audiences. - Meeting with clients to solicit new business and maintaining existing business; developing project proposals and guiding projects to satisfactory completion. - Generating revenue and finding sources for new revenue. Annual operating budget is $1.2 million. - Evaluating, hiring and working with outside vendors who support office projects. These may include printers, artists, designers, photographers and new media technology providers. - Must be able to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines and budgets. - Developing budgets and schedules for each project and ensuring client satisfaction on both.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

B.A. required and a minimum of 10 years relevant experience (five of which must be in a supervisory capacity) required.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Proven administrative and management skills, excellent client contact skills; thorough knowledge of creative design, brand development and management, production and new media design and production; prior marketing communications planning, production and project management experience required; hands-on design experience preferred; knowledge of advertising, photography, branding, desktop publishing, print, and electronic publishing.
