DESCRIPTION

This position is a highly responsible fundraising position. Duties require a high degree of initiative, follow through, and organizational skills; professionalism and fundraising insight in communications with key external constituencies. This position is responsible for developing and managing an ambitious ( $1.6 million) and comprehensive fund raising program capable of identifying and successfully securing significant financial support from individuals, corporations and foundations to support the Center's operating, program and capital priorities. The Director of Development is a member of the agency's leadership team reporting to the CEO, and works closely with the Board of Directors and directly with the Development Committee. The position is responsible for the Center's fundraising and marketing initiatives; to include the annual appeal, grants, special events, planned giving, capital campaign, in-kind donations and marketing/communications. This position is a member of the senior staff and is jointly responsible for the development of and execution of the Centers' mission, strategies, budget, policies and practices and acts as an official representative of the agency when designated by the CEO.

DUTIES

  • Planning:
oResponsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of annual work objectives for communication, fundraising, and community awareness.
  • Staff Management:
oResponsible for supervision, recruitment, and training opportunities designed to enhance the performance of development staff.
oSchedules time to review performance, give direction, and seek feedback.
  • Fundraising:
oDesigns, implements and manages all fundraising activities including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, special projects, and other center's-related solicitations.
oManages all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and relations.
oMonitors grant proposals for foundations and corporations.
oDevelops, implements, and monitors the Center's annual plan.
oDevelops and implements alumni fundraising programs within the Annual Fund.
oDevelops a comprehensive planned-giving program.
oOversees and produces corporate, educational, and fundraising events, developing and monitoring budgets for all events, tracking line items for cost savings.
oImplements effective and timely direct mail promotions
oResearches donor prospects and provides background information for work with Development Committee in strategizing for major gift solicitations.
oTakes leadership role in Capital Campaign.
oWorks closely with donor volunteers to host events in support of the Centers' mission.
oProduces and "justifies" the contributed revenue forecasts necessary for supporting the Centers' financial planning and strategic plan.
  • Board of Directors Relations:
oWorks with the Board of Directors, volunteers and the CEO to develop strategies to initiate and meet aggressive fundraising goals.
oCoordinates and supports the work of the Board of Directors Development Committee
oSupports the Board Chair in ensuring the giving of the Board.
oDevelops fundraising training for BOD and other leadership volunteers.
oAssumes responsibility for all Development reports to the Board and other agencies, and attends Finance, Executive and General Board meetings.
oAssists the Board with recommending and researching potential new members.
oProvides Staff support to appropriate Board Committees
  • Development Office Infrastructure:
oCreates office systems to support all Development projects and operations.
oSupervises donor and gift record-keeping.
oCoordinates development research activities.
oOversees the management of databases and all records, files, and gift processing.
oManages the pledge reminder and acknowledgement programs.
oApproves all purchasing for the Department, all personnel time records, expense requests and other administrative requests within the Department.
oDevelops and monitors department budget subject to CEO and BOD approval.
oProvides justification/explanation for budget variances to CEO and CFO.
oProvides written department reports to CEO monthly or as requested.
oCreates and provides outcomes for stakeholders satisfaction surveys, i.e., volunteers, donors, committee members and event guests
oPress relationships
oAgency branding to insure consistency of logo usage and color integrity
oResponsible for producing all agency communications, to include the annual report, quarterly newsletters, and social networking.
oWebsite maintenance
  • Grants:
oSupports grant program and assists in researching and cultivating opportunities
  • Volunteers:
oOversees volunteer program and assists in supporting and providing direction to Volunteer Coordinator in providing quality volunteer opportunities that benefit the Centers' mission and the volunteers.
oSupervises adopt-a-class, adopt-a-family and group (corporate) volunteer activities.
  • Alumni Relations
oCreate, manage and maintain an alumni database.
oOrganizes and supports an alumni association.
oOrganizes alumni events, collects news and information about the members of the alumni for publication, and keeps accurate records of the school's alumni.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum six years' experience in fundraising, public relations/marketing and management, donor cultivation, grant writing, contracts management, and special events.
  • Background and knowledge in the field of charitable giving, private and public grants.
  • Proven track record of raising funds from diverse sources, including major gifts from individuals, foundations, corporations and government agencies.
  • Team player and motivator.
  • Knowledge of and connections to the funding community in South Florida.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, supervisory and time management skills.
  • Detail and deadline oriented.
  • Computer literate, proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Donor tracking systems.
  • Systems oriented; project and production management.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters and tasks with judgment and tact.
