The University of Mary Washington is seeking a seasoned digital communications professional whose strength is in translating higher education goals and objectives into a solid online presence for the institution across the traditional web, mobile web, and social media spaces. The selected candidate will have demonstrated experience in collaborating successfully within higher education culture, establishing solid working relationships with faculty and staff, and following industry best practices. The candidate will collaborate with the communications professionals within the Office of University Relations, overseeing the main University website and supervising the University Webmaster.
--Bachelor's degree or equivalent in fine arts, graphic design, or a related design or computer science field preferred. Equivalent applicable experience or training will be considered.
--Minimum two years higher education web communications experience.
--Outstanding front-end web design and production skills, including hands-on experience with WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, PHP/MySQL, CSS, and HTML.
--Ability to be on site most days.
--Familiarity with trends in responsive design, HTML5, web accessibility, usability testing, information architecture, and mobile web applications.
--Demonstrated writing, design, and editing skills.
--Proven organizational and communication abilities.
--Master's degree in a relevant field.
--Visibility and participation within social networks, including blogging.
--Visibility and participation in the higher education WordPress community.
--Experience in the development and execution of integrated communications materials, including marketing plan and identity/branding standards.
--Background in development and management of policies, procedures, and guidelines related to Web communications.
--Presentations at professional conferences.
--An insatiable appetite for new knowledge.
