The Director of Disability Support Services is an exempt, part-time position that reports to the Vice President for Student Life. The Director is responsible for directing and managing University programs aimed at providing comprehensive support services for disabled students and to interact with other departments to help ensure that programs and support services comply with ADA regulations. This position will develop and implement policies and procedures for comprehensive and individualized support service access programs that are provided to disabled students, to include interacting with other University officials to recommend major changes. The Director will also manage the annual operating budget for programs and support services, and will develop and implement special programs and events to help improve campus awareness and knowledge of special needs. The Director also needs to coordinate scholarship programs for disabled students and serve as a consultant to off-campus locations regarding issues and concerns related to access and support services to disabled students.
Qualified candidates will have a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling Special Education (or a closely related field), or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A minimum of five years of professional experience administering programs and support services to disabled students, to include two years of supervisory experience, is necessary. A proficient working knowledge of ADA regulations is also necessary. Proficiency with sign language is highly desirable. Additional requirements include previous experience in working with persons with disabilities, the ability to work autonomously, excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills. Candidates will have knowledge of the mission of the University and a demonstrated commitment and understanding of the service orientation of Notre Dame of Maryland University.
