Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Plant Engineering & Utilities, the Director of Electrical Systems is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Electrical Systems on campus, totaling approximately 7,000,000 square feet, on 36 acres. He / She oversees and directs the operation of electrical, vertical transportation, fire systems, metering and monitoring on the Morningside Campus. Directs and participates in the daily operation of the electrical department and assumes total responsibility of the department's performance. The Director develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain records for the operating unit and ensure the quality of work and adherence to schedule demands. The Director oversees activities of contractors and suppliers, monitors contracts for compliance and controls costs, monitors general expenditures of unit and performs quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards. The Director completes purchase orders and monitors all expenses at the property level, codes and submits invoices for payment to the finance office. Solicits bids for maintenance contractors and construction projects, and participates in the selection of contractors. Obtain bids for capital improvements when necessary. The Director represents Columbia University with NYC Master/Special Electrician License to carry on electrical work therein. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

NYC Master/Special Electrician License required. Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and / or related business experience totaling 6 years and a minimum of 7 years experience in building operations, normal power and emergency power electrical systems, vertical transportation, fire systems and meter and monitoring. Demonstrated managerial and human relations skills, labor relations experience, significant experience in large and complex facilities environments required. Knowledge of BMS/SCADA computer-based systems and software applicable to building operations strongly preferred. Proven management development and leadership skills, experience in identifying deferred maintenance and long range project/financial planning, and strong oral and written communication skills required.
