NBCUniversal has an opening for the Director of Engineering, Dry Creek, in the Operations and Technical Services group. The Director of Engineering will be tasked with recruiting, building, and managing a team of highly talented on-air support, project, and automation engineers to support the new facility being built by NBCUniversal that will be responsible for all over NBCUniversal streaming and disaster recovery, media prep, play-out channels and uplinks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing a 24 x 7 engineering team supporting the NBCUniversal Dry Creek Technical Operations
  • Overseeing projects and technology initiatives in support of the operation
  • Maintaining 99.999% reliability for all On-Air Distribution systems
  • Liaising with key operational partners and provide technical leadership in support of technical operations
  • Managing capital and operational budgets for the Dry Creek engineering team
  • Managing the commissioning of new systems as they come online in the new facility.
  • Managing the relationships with key vendors that support the facility
  • Developing and maintain excellent rigor around performing maintenance on systems that are directly critical to NBCUniversal’s revenue stream
  • Establishing relationships with key staff at other NBCU facilities to help define best practices and standards that ensure facility interoperability Qualifications/Requirements • BS in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent combination of education/experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Broadcast Engineering
  • 5+ years team leadership experience
  • 5+ years project management experience
  • Detailed knowledge of master control technologies & workflows
  • Strong understanding of satellite transmission systems including RF, encryption and encoding platforms
  • Strong understanding of digital workflows and Transcoding systems (Anystream, Telestream)
  • Strong understanding of video servers, IP based infrastructures and software automation
  • Strong understanding of media prep systems, SAN architecture, Storenex, and LTOs
  • Srong understanding of video, audio and ancillary data protocols and technologies
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure, topologies and protocols
  • Proven ability to analyze complex system problems and drive corrective actions in stressful situations
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, compile and deliver regular clear, concise reports detailing system performance and reliability

  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be 18 years or older Desired Characteristics • CCNA or MCSE preferred
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency with AUTOCAD, MS Office Suite, Windows, Linux, Mac OS
  • Development or demonstrable software troubleshooting experience
  • Proven leadership experience within a dynamic, multi-channel transmission facility
