Compensation: mid- $60,000s to mid-$70,000s depending on experience and education.

Essential Functions:

The Director of Financial Aid provides leadership and direction in all areas of the financial aid administration. The Director plans, organizes, directs, and controls the activities of the Financial Aid Office. The Director administers state and federal financial aid, scholarships, veterans’ educational benefits, and the Hathaway Scholarship program. The department coordinates the awarding and delivery of over $8.5 million in federal, state, institutional, and external financial aid and resources annually. The Director interacts with students, parents, faculty, staff, community members, and representatives of external agencies involved with the administration and delivery of financial aid. The Director is responsible for the education of the campus community, promotion, and awareness of student aid programs through presentations, correspondence, and other means.

The Director advises, consults, and coordinates with all campus entities regarding activities pertaining to student eligibility, financial aid awarding and disbursement, account reconciliation, reporting needs, student employment, computer support, publicity, funding requirements and availability, and other matters. Off-campus relationships include but are not limited to prospective students, parents, high school counselors, lenders, guarantee agencies, financial aid directors, and personnel at other institutions, scholarship donors, social service agencies, Wyoming Community College Commission, the U. S. Department of Education, the Wyoming Department of Education.

The Director must maintain a high level of professional competence in best practices in financial aid, program assessment, operational budgeting, and the Ellucian Colleague system. The Director will collaborate across departments for effective and accurate service to students. Excellent organization, planning, and prioritization skills are essential.

The Director of Financial Aid requires excellent communication skills with both internal and external constituents and must be able to represent the College in a well-informed and professional manner. Occasional assistance with Student Services event planning and execution and other activities may also be required.

All Student Services team members must provide excellent customer service to students and prospective students in person as well as by phone, fax and email. Occasional evening and weekend work and overnight travel may be required.

This position will work independently, reporting directly to the Vice President of Student Services but with a high degree of autonomy in organizing his/her own work. Day-to-day decisions may affect several Student Services departments and others across the College, so a high degree of collaboration and communication are essential. The Director of Financial Aid may at times speak for the College in matters related to financial aid, and at all times will be expected to keep the Vice President of Student Services, and often the President of Laramie County Community College well informed of activities affecting the College.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years experience in a progressive management role.
  • Direct supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience with federal regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in financial assistance or financial aid.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of the Ellucian Colleague Student module system or other major student information system at the functional end-user level.
