Richard Bland College (RBC) of William & Mary in Virginia seeks a Director of Financial Management to direct and implement the accounting and budget operations of the College. The Director of Financial Management will report to the vice president for finance and administration, who is the chief financial officer of the College, and will be a key player in the management of the College's financial affairs. The Director of Financial Management will also be responsible for the oversight of the accounting and reporting related to The Richard Bland College Foundation.
? The work of the Director of Financial Management consists of four broad areas:
o accounting operations, including student and other accounts receivable; procurement and accounts payable; and fixed assets;
o general ledger, financial statement and audit preparation and management;
o budget development and oversight;
o financial analysis and reporting.
? The Director of Financial Management will be responsible for the management, evaluation and timely, accurate and efficient functioning of all professional and classified employees within Financial Services.
? The Director of Financial Management will assure that an effective system of internal accounting controls is in place, oversee all elements of the books of account, and prepare financial reports for a variety of audiences throughout the year, including the submission of data to the College of William & Mary and state system of higher education entities, as well as to undertake related duties, as required.
? The Director of Financial Management will prepare materials in a timely and accurate manner, as requested by the financial staff at the College of William & Mary, toward the compilation of consolidated financial statements with W&M and its other entities.
? The Director of Financial Management will compile financial statements for the Richard Bland College Foundation and be the responsible staff person working with external auditors in the preparation of the Foundation's financial statements.
? The Director of Financial Management will coordinate the development of College's budgets and work closely with faculty and management to facilitate the process. S/he will monitor the status of actual results vs. budgetary plans. S/he will assure that timely, accurate reporting of actual results vs. budget is available to responsibility center managers periodically throughout the year.
? The Director of Financial Management will provide financial analysis to support senior administration in the work to develop multi-year financial plans and the College's strategic planning efforts; to more broadly inform the management processes of the College; and to prepare reports, as requested, for the Board of the Foundation and the Board of Visitors of the College of William & Mary.
? The Director of Financial Management will play a lead role in assessing the effectiveness of the budget and accounting systems infrastructure, in recommending courses of action to better integrate the systems' processes, and in working to implement needed improvements. The Director of Financial Management will undertake a substantial review and redesign of the College's financial systems to improve the transfer of information from RBC to W&M in a timely and accurate manner. Both W&M and RBC use Sungard's Banner administrative software for financial transactions.
? RBC also integrates reporting with several financial subcomponents within the Virginia state system of higher education. The Director of Financial Management will undertake a substantial review of the integration and utilization between Banner and these systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the budget and accounting systems and personnel time.
RBC seeks a person with a blend of experience and credentials appropriate to the position.
The successful candidate will possess a record of solid academic achievement in a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree program in Accounting and/or M.B.A. degree with accounting concentration and/or M.S. in Accounting and successful completion of an interview. Professional references will be required.
A minimum of seven (7) years' accounting and budget experience with a Bachelor's degree in accounting OR a minimum of four (4) years' accounting and budget experience with either an M.B.A. or M.S. degree will be required. The CPA designation, management experience, and a record of successful work experience that includes increasing levels of responsibility in accounting and budget in higher education or other not-for-profit organizations will be preferred. Candidates with substantial backgrounds in the use of Banner financial systems and/or experience in accounting for the Virginia system of higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.
