The School of Agriculture at Virginia State University is seeking a highly professional individual with outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills to serve as the Director of Financial Services. The successful candidate will provide leadership for the financial management services for the School of Agriculture. Duties include, but are not limited to monitoring all budgets for the School of Agriculture and notifying appropriate persons when discrepancies are found; creating budget accounts; maintain up-to-date records; supervise all staff assigned to the Financial Services Department; overseeing procurement, purchasing, payroll processing, and accounts payable; monitoring vehicle use; ensuring inventory of fixed assets is maintained; prepare financial reports; reviewing and approving purchases and expenses, including small purchase charge card reports; developing and implementing departmental procedures; providing training and direction to staff; conducting routine audits to ensure adherence to University and State guidelines. Works closely with Dean, Associate Deans, department directors, and department chairs to ensure all budgets are appropriately managed and maintained.

Candidate must have extensive knowledge of governmental policies and procedures related to financial management. Considerable knowledge of agency, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding financial operations, reporting requirements, and federal grants management. Excellent writing and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with all levels of professionals, faculty, students, staff, alumni and high level government officials to develop and interpret policies and procedures; and, to balance competing priorities. Candidate must be highly organized and analytical, have strong problem solving skills, and experience supervising and managing staff. Must have skill in the use of Microsoft Office. B.S. in Business Management or equivalent combination of education experience is preferred.
Knowledge of the Commonwealth's Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP) manual and eVa is preferred.
The selected candidate must pass a Criminal Background check, including fingerprinting and must complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment, if applicable.
