Volunteers of America Texas is a faith based, non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals, families and communities reach their full spiritual, emotional and physical potential and wellbeing through a vast array of services that target the elderly, the intellectually disabled, those striving to overcome substance abuse, and those transitioning from correctional centers.

The Director of Grants & Awards is responsible for promoting the positive image of the agency with government agencies and foundations to generate revenue for operations, capital expenditures and new program initiatives of the organization. He/She will create new relationships with Government Agencies, Foundations, Corporations and individual donors to build the visibility, impact and financial resources of Volunteers of America Texas.​ In addition, relationships with existing grant-makers will be enhanced and expanded. The Director of Grants & Awards will lead all efforts related to the planning, writing, securing and managing of all grant funding throughout the organization, and serves as the liaison to all grant funding agencies. The Director of Grants & Awards is responsible for achieving fundraising goals and engaging funder support of ongoing service activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
Develops outreach and cultivation strategy for government agencies, officials and representatives that make policy and funding decisions that impact VOA services.
Produces an annual plan to include goals, budgets and forecasts.
Prepares a strategic plan with short- and long-range goals to meet grant funding objectives.
Coordinates development and implementation of grant writing activities to include other development staff, contract grant writers, and finance and program staff.
Assists program directors in identifying potential grants, other funding opportunities and preparing applications and proposals.
Train and lead staff involved in grant opportunities.
Fund Raising
Conducts internal and external research on organization's programs to build compelling case for support.
Organizes, implements and supervises grant writing activities that include government and foundation solicitation applications and proposals for a total budget goal of $20.5 million.
Works with program staff to develop relationships with granting agencies.
Secures matching funds needed for grants when necessary.
Tracks solicitation targets and activities in donor management software according to a 5 to 1 ratio of prospects to goal.
Researches and identifies potential contributors to fund special project and ongoing operations through examination of giving history and interest and other information as available.
Manage grant compliant process to ensure that all funding requirements are met and reports and are being turned in to funders.
Coordinates and leads organization site visits with funders.
Stays current in fundraising trends through peer groups and professional development.
Represents VOA to government agencies, donors, prospects, and the community at large to enhance public relations.
Coordinates communications with foundations and government agencies and representatives to build a positive image and understanding of VOA services.
Process and Procedures
Institutes/maintains appropriate record keeping for donor participation (cash, pledges and in-kind) and identification and cultivation of donor prospects.
Maintain and coordinate annual grants and RFP calendar.
Staff Management
Supervises contract support as appropriate.
Maintains cordial and productive relationships with donors, Board, Board Development Committee, and all staff.
Financial Management
Ensures management of the program's resources within budget.
Within the scope of responsibility, adheres to budget guidelines, including expenditures, billing for services, P-Card documentation, etc

Excellent persuasive and technical writing skills
Proven track record of achieving revenue targets annually
Proven management and leadership capabilities
Experience working with Senior Level executives in a corporate environment

Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

Other Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in marketing, nonprofit management, psychology or business field plus five years related experience in grant writing.
Valid Texas Drivers License and ability to be insured; valid Vehicle Liability if driving personal vehicle.
