Description

The Director of Health Information Management manages and directs all activities of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department, including the transcription, coding, and release of information functions. The Director is responsible for the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of the patient’s medical record. The Director ensures compliance with federal and state laws as they relate to medical records and coding, and ensures that all hospital and departmental policies and procedures are in accordance with the requirements of CMS, JCAHO, HIPAA, Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and all other regulatory agencies. The Director functions as the hospital’s Privacy Officer.

Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration or similar degree required.

Experience:
At least five years of progressive experience in health information management in an acute care hospital setting. Minimum of three years management or supervisory experience. Solid knowledge of governmental rules and regulations related to health information management, including CMS, JCAHO, HIPAA, and coding. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.

Licenses/Certificates:
Registered Health Information Administration required. CCS certification a plus. Masters Degree preferred.
