Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Director of Library Services is responsible for the management and supervision of the Dunwoody Campus Library. The Director of Library Services is expected to provide leadership and vision necessary to support, expand and advance the goals and objectives of the Library in harmony with educational programs of the College and the College's strategic plan.
The Director of Library Services will bring an understanding of the library as vital component of the teaching and learning enterprise; capacity to exercise energetic leadership with commitment to collaborative decision making; expertise in electronic information systems; thorough knowledge of all aspects of library operations; commitment to the professional development of library staff; capacity to represent the College effectively in consortia and other professional associations; ability to contribute creatively to the College's adaptation to ongoing changes in both management of a library and the role of the library in the College; and an appreciation for the special needs of academic communities to support the scholarly and pedagogical missions of the faculty.

A minimum of seven (7) years in increasingly responsible positions as a library administrator in an academic or other educational environment is required.

A minimum of a Master's Degree in Library Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA accredited college or university is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to work effectively in a changing environment and to articulate the present and future challenges facing libraries.
  • Ability to assume leadership role in integrating new media, technology and programs with traditional library collections and services to the faculty and student communities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with administrators, faculty, staff and students and to be an effective advocate for librarians.

Physical Requirements:
Position requires local travel between campuses and off-campus sites to perform required duties, attend meetings, and to fulfill other responsibilities. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Ability to exert up to twenty (20) pounds of force by occasionally transporting boxes, handouts, files or other materials. Ability to receive detailed information from others through oral, written, and computer communication. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Job takes place in normal environmental conditions.
