This position will have the primary responsibility for enhancing and enriching the quality of life for our independent living residents at Rydal Park. The position will develop and coordinate residential activities to meet the needs and interests and enhance overall satisfaction of community residents in Independent Living. Works in collaboration with the Medical Center/Personal Care Recreation Director to insure proper planning and coordination of events and entertainment are provided to meet the needs of the Rydal Park Community. Manages, directs and leads staff assigned to his/her department. Demonstrates an understanding and performs all duties upholding the Presby’s Service from the HEART customer service standards.

Essential Duties

  • Oversees the coordination of the Rydal Park Volunteer Program.
  • Manages and or schedules a monthly Calendar of Events for residential residents and maintains the primary community bulletin board in an interesting and informative fashion. Is responsible for expanding programming to enhance current resident life and provide Rydal Park a competitive advantage in the market.
  • Oversees the planning and implementation of recreational and exercise programs that meet the residents' present level of functioning and interests for independent living residents. Promotes activities that join residents from all levels of care to participate together. Plans and coordinates residential trips, weekly programs, celebrations and participates in planning and coordination of community theme events.
  • Supervises assigned team members and volunteers and ensures compliance with required in services.
  • Responsible for updating the IL section of our Touchtown TV Channel. Insuring all activities and events are promoted in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Develop annual budget for his/her department. Works with staff in the future budget planning of recreation expenses and manages the current expenses according to the established budget.
  • Manages the inventory and ordering of recreational supplies needed.
  • Records monthly expenses/income and maintains established budgetary guidelines.
  • Promotes positive public relations and media opportunities. Notifies the CSC Director of Communications of and provides information relating to community and public relations activities and events.

  • Experience: a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible work experience in the recreation department of a retirement community, skilled care or assisted living environment; or an associate’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in the recreation department of a retirement community, skilled care or assisted living environment. National Certification Council for Activity Professionals or a state approved coordinator’s activity course is preferred but not required.

    Education/Training: bachelor’s degree in recreation, fine arts, social services or a related human services field.

    Skill(s): Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; decision-making skills.
