Over the past three years, we have built a world-class communications team charged with telling the powerful stories of our users through the media. Because of our deep relationships with the world’s top journalists and partnerships with leading media outlets, more than 200 Change.org petitions are covered in the press every single day, and Change.org has been profiled in every major global media outlet.
We are seeking a Director of Media Relations to join our award-winning US communications team to help us supercharge our work. We are looking for someone passionate and ambitious who thinks big and will create amazing media strategies, relationships, products and partnerships.
Reporting to our Managing Director of Communications, your responsibilities will include:
Creating and implementing a relationship management system that strengthens our ties with the most important outlets and influential media-makers in the country.
Identifying and pitching smart stories and partnerships with top-tier media outlets.
Working with our product development team to help journalists to find great content on our platform.
Representing Change.org at important media meetings and events and at interviews, both on- and off-the-record.
Continuously developing ambitious, innovative strategies that engage more journalists and media outlets with the Change.org platform.
Our dream candidate possesses:
Experience developing deep relationships and partnerships with diverse, top-tier media.
A thorough understanding of the US media landscape and what makes an excellent media story.
Exceptional writing skills in English. (Additional languages are a bonus!)
An amazing ability to connect with all sorts of people, win the hearts and minds of everyone they meet, and communicate in an intelligent and authentic way.
Great organizational and project management skills.
A passion for using media and technology to change the world, and the ability to get other people fired up about the possibilities of people-powered change.
Experience or interest in working in a global, online environment.
A track record of good judgment, especially in rapid-response situations.
