Grace United Methodist Church is an urban and historical church in downtown Harrisburg. Grace Church is committed to its music ministry. We will begin reviewing resumes February 5, 2012. Our director of our music ministry partners with the pastor, the choir(s), and the congregation to fulfill our mission and vision through music. Responsibilities include the following. Serving as the primary musician on Sunday mornings, as well as for special services (such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday, weddings, funerals, and other functions of the church). Playing all kinds of music from classical/traditional to global styles of music and song. Directing the chancel choir for one rehearsal per week and building up other choirs, if possible. (We do have handbells.) From September to May, we have one worship service at 11:00. From June through August, we have two worship services, one at 9:00 outside with an electronic keyboard and one at 11:00 in a small chapel, piano. For the time being, choir rehearsal is on Sundays at 9:30 am. Remuneration, although listed, can be negotiated. Membership is about 200;worship attendance under 100.

Job Requirements

Playing the keyboards of the church--a pipe organ of 78 ranks, four manuals and six divisions (The Organ: Built by the Austin Company in 1919, expanded by them in 1940. Rebuilt and modernized by the M.P. Mollar Company. Stop list available), several pianos, including a Steinway, and the electronic keyboard. Selecting and arranging most music of the church in consultation with the pastor. Equipping other musicians and singers to fulfill their call of music in the church. Supervising the section leaders. Leading in ways to connect with a broad range of people, from the choir to the congregation. Serving as the spiritual leader for the music program and its participants. Regarding education: In the past, we have usually had organists with at least BA degrees in music and some experience etc. And in addition in the last 60 years, we have only had three organists. But we do not want to limit applicants based on years or degrees.
