  • Scope: The Director of News and Operations is responsible for ensuring the high standard of operation of KACU’s technical programming and related activities. The manager is responsible for music and other programming in cooperation with the general manager and the operations assistant. The manager will coordinate the integration of KACU news reporting with the JMC Network that provides print, online and video news content.

    I. Basic Responsibilities

    A. Manage, maintain weekly/monthly broadcast schedules with the operations assistant

    B. Manage and ensure compliance with all FCC and CPB requirements with the general manager

    C. Responsible for auto programming system including

    AudioVault and Content Depot and digital content systems for HD1&2 Channels

    D. Contribute actively as key team member of the KACU staff to achieve KACU goals.

    E. Collaborate with General Manager in the development of all broadcasting programs.

    F. Oversee daily newscast(s), select student reporters and producers and coordinate news activities with the advisors of the Optimist/JMC Network

  • Plan, lead and direct operational activities for KACU.
  • B. Manage and ensure compliance with all FCC and CPB requirements with the general manager

  • Maintain public files
  • C. Responsible for auto programming system including AudioVault and Content Depot and digital content systems for HD1&2 Channels and other channels that may be required.

  • Share programming of electronic content systems with operations assistant
  • D. Contribute actively as key team member of the KACU staff to achieve KACU goals.

  • Supervise student staff announcers
  • Ensure that program services are consistent with the mission, goals, legal requirements and editorial policies of KACU and Abilene Christian University
  • Conduct, monitor relevant training and support as required
  • E. Collaborate with General Manager in the development of all broadcasting programs.

  • Maintain KACU web site working with staff and Public Interactive
  • F. Choose music for programming with collaboration of general manager and operations assistant

  • Work to maintain consistency daytime music sound and quality of classical programming
  • III. Professional Development Requirements:

    A. Skills and training

  • AudioVault (or similar) Programming
  • ProTools (or similar) Audio Editing
  • HD Digital Training
  • IV. Qualifications:

    ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.

    A. Professional

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent professional experience
  • Professional experience in broadcasting operations and production and broadcast news
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. An emphasis on radio news writing and reporting will be a plus.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent staff relationships
  • A candidate with a master’s degree in a JMC field may have the opportunity to teach courses as a supply instructor in the JMC Department.
