Under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Executive, the Nurse Director is responsible for providing leadership for a designated patient care area. This individual has the accountability and responsibility for clinical operations ensuring that efficient and effective nursing care is provided to individuals and families in the patient care area in which they are employed. As a member of the Nursing Leadership Team, the Nurse Director makes decisions independently and in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Executive to promote the attainment of hospital goals in accordance with its mission.
ANA Standards of Practice:
A. Assessment: the registered nurse collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or the situation.
B. Diagnosis: the registered nurse analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnoses or issues.
C. Outcomes Identification: the registered nurse identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or the situation.
D. Planning: the registered nurse develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes.
E. Implementation: the registered nurse implements the identified plan, coordinates care delivery, employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
F. Evaluation: the registered nurse evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
G. Quality of Practice: the registered nurse systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
Minimum of three (3) years of clinical practice areas of responsibility with emphasis on leadership and management experience. Previous experience in the patient care population in which employed is required.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN Preferred.
Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse. Nursing certification in area of specialty preferred. BLS Healthcare Provider card with unit specific competencies obtained within six months.
