Vanguard Healthcare Services is seeking a Director of Purchasing for its corporate offices. This position oversees and directs the centralized purchasing department. Manages and acts as the system administrator for the materials management information system including oversight of system interfaces, user support, training and system maintenance.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Approval administrator for all purchase orders company-wide. Administrator for Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Maintains product formulary in conjunction with clinical operations team. Maintains and fosters relationships with both clinical and operations team to ensure that the required products are available for their teams. Manage day-to-day operations of the corporate purchasing function to ensure the efficient flow of products and service to the Vanguard facilities. Establish procurement policies and procedures to be followed by all Vanguard facilities. Approve selection of major vendors. Possess the ability to effectively develop RFP documents and coordinate RFP process. Ability to accurately assess a vendor’s capabilities and performance. Negotiate terms of major contracts and purchase orders. Recommend major purchases of materials on the basis of anticipated changes in price or on unusual availability situations. Balance cash flow considerations against possible price savings. Ensure that purchasing documents are completed properly and the terms and conditions of purchases are appropriate. Maintain accurate recordkeeping, including price and vendor relationship histories. Establish effective inventory controls – balancing cash flow considerations for low inventories while avoiding shortages of necessary materials and supplies. Oversee daily activities of purchase order composition, order expediting, pricing, order placement, accruals and invoice resolution; bidding, negotiating and performing spreadsheet analysis of products or product groups; interviewing sales representatives to maintain awareness of product changes, vendors and cost savings opportunities; analyzing market conditions and statistical data; and, selecting service providers and issuing contractual agreements.

Requirements:
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge of medical products utilized in a nursing home setting.
  • Experience managing purchasing function for multi-site healthcare organization required.
  • Working knowledge of automated materials management information systems. Experience leading a system conversion required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field along with five years’ experience in the purchasing field.
  • CPSM or CPPM certification preferred.
