Responsible for working closely with resort Health & Safety Managers, resort operational leaders and the company’s Legal & Compliance Department to identify risks and risk situations, develop and implement proactive and corrective measures, and lead the company’s best practices in regards to risk prevention and mitigation in the Company’s winter and summer on mountain operations.
The successful candidate will have significant experience working in operational settings analyzing risks and safety requirements and have the drive and desire to lead in the implementation of a vision and creation of a plan for a comprehensive guest safety program, incorporating all elements of the Company’s operations and industry practices. While the candidate need not come from the ski industry, the candidate must have the ability to transfer skills and envision a best in class on-mountain safety program for winter and summer activities.
Specifically, this position will be expected to:
Work collaboratively with mountain operations at all of the Company’s resorts, including ski patrol, lift operations, base area operations, the health & safety manager and others, with input from the Legal & Compliance department, to design and deliver comprehensive and consistent best practices for all winter and summer operations and activities across the entire mountain division;
Identify risks and exposures in existing on-mountain winter operational practices, and develop and implement plans to mitigate;
Formulate, develop and implement comprehensive safety practices with respect to the Company’s expanding summer mountain operations and activities from project design through operational implementation;
Collaborate with the Legal & Compliance department on compliance projects such as risk assessments;
Form, lead and direct the resort Safety Best Practice Groups. Drive decisions and actions necessary to improve the resort’s Safety practices, including auditing compliance with established guidelines and driving accountability among operational leads and Health & Safety managers;
Work collaboratively with each mountain resort’s Health & Safety Manager and the Legal & Compliance department to deliver training programs at the resort;
Advise the President of the Mountain Division and the General Counsel/Assistant General Counsel on the goals, successes and plans of the mountain Safety best practice programs, including compliance status and improvements needed.
Actively engage in oversight of on-mountain incident response, investigation and follow-up.
Bachelor's degree in related field
7-10 years of experience in risk managment, or combined experience of ski industry/risk management.
Significant experience in the risk management and/or compliance field, developing operational safety plans and comprehensive safety best practice agendas
Microsoft Office Suite – Advanced Proficiency; database management; incident investigation software
Proficiency (at an intermediate level) in skiing or snowboarding
